What unit are you using?
What database are you installing?

Dear all,

i have found what the problem is, not sure if i can do anything about it. i just decided to load only the cameras and it worked, can see all my icons, however, it also means that it doesnt like having lots of POIs so i will have to consider what to do next, any ideas.

Can i ask how many that is? "A lot" means different things to different people.

Do you know what software / firmware version you are running? Nuvi 310 Units running firmware older than version 3.90 had a problem with locking up in the past if they had to many POIs installed.

Are the POIs installed to the internal memory or the card? If the SD card, are you sure you don't have a duplicate POI.GPI file in the Garmin/POI folder of the internal memory? If the internal memory are you sure you don't have a duplicate POI.GPI file in the Garmin/POI folder of the SD Card? Delete all POI.GPI files from the SD Card and the internal memory (CAREFULLY) and then reload the files.

Also have you checked you don't have any files included that might confuse the unit - i.e. any BMPS without corresponding CSV files?

Hi,

i think that i had most of the catergories that were being given for free. which by my reckoning was a least 80-90000 POI min however, i did go back and delete a lot and then start all over again.

i have just updated the garmin unit to the latest version which is 5.0.

i have removed all the POI.GPI files and then i tried to reinstall the cut down version, still no luck. it seems that it all works fine when i dont put any POIs on, not sure what to do?

what is the top amount i could put on this garmin without it failing to show the icons etc.

there are no files that should confuse the unit now.

thanks

Simon

Sorry can you clarify that? Are you saying that loading just the Speed Camera Database works or not?

What if you try just the Speed Camera Database on it's own?

What if you try just all the non-Speed Camera Database POIs?

What if you try the Speed Camera Database and just a few POI files?

Whilst I'm not aware of any such limit it's entirely possible one might exist, and could well be the source of your problem. Do you really need all the POIs?

Try loading the Speed Camera Database and a few POIs. If that works then try adding a few more POIs and keep increasing until you hit a point the problem starts. That might give you an idea of how many POIS can be loaded.

Hi,

many thanks,

it does work when you put either one by itself, so on that conclusion, i am going to do what you have said and gradually put them in to see how many i get on to it.

once again, many thanks for all your help, youve been great

257 custom POI Categories used to be the limit on these devices, rather than the actual individual locations - Mike

Ah! That would be a good starting point. Try 256 categories and then 257....

the issue with the categories limit was that the device simply wouldn't load.. unless when they 'fixed' it they simply made the unit load but not show the poi's properly?
