I've had my TT700 2 or 3 years and I'm sure that the screen is dimmer than it was. The screen brightness is on 100% but it hardly gets any brighter above 70%. On a sunny day (not many I know) it is really difficult to see the screen even though I have a 'sun shade' around the screen I bought on e-bay which does help alot.
Is this a common problem? It is possible to 'change the bulb' inside or what? Your comments would be appriciated. Apart from this, I'd never be parted from it on a journey. This could be a good reason to upgrade...... Twisted Evil

If you have a backup containing a different software release try installing that to make sure the difference isn't down to the version of Navcore software installed to the device, I have seen screen brightness alter between some releases of software.
If the backlight is on its way out they can be changed at a significant cost and its not really a DIY proposition, it might be time to consider changing the hardware for something more modern - Mike

Thanks for VERY rapid response, Mike. How do I tell what version of Navcore software is installed in my device? Then I'll see if there is a newer (or different) version available.

Tap the sat strength meter in the lower right corner then tap the version box on the presented screen, this should give you the information you need, what version is loaded to your device? - Mike

Mike, I have version 7.162 (8492/071121) OS:2327, then it says GPS v1.21, Boot 5.4201 and continues with map v710.1556.

Does this help at all?
Peter

7.162 is the latest version available for the 700.

Hi Peter,

I have a 710 with ident spec to you - apart from the map.
I get problems with the screen as well in sunlight, it is just about unreadable.
Been thinking of buying a newer model, but the 710 does all that I need apart from the screen thing.

The work around I use, not always convenient it has to be said, is to turn the TT away from the light. I usually have it in the centre of the dash as opposed to the right, so I can usually turn it more to the right / left as conditions dictate. Doesn't always work though, and you do lose some visibility on it because it will be offset to you.

There have been quite a few add-on sunvisors produced for various TomTom models.
"Glarestomper", "Drumma" and a new addition "ZunZun" (rather OTT!) spring to mind.
