Could this mysterious 940 Live simply be an existing model (930), which is shipping with the HD traffic receiver instead of the 'egg'?

The HD receiver plugs directly into the cigarette lighter and has a built-in SIM. It can, therefore, receive any services available via GPRS and all for the HD traffic subscription.

Perhaps this is a simplistic outlook, but a simple accessory change here would result in the 'new product', rather than changes to the device itself and give the same result.

Very likely, same as the 'traffic' models are exactly the same but bundled with an accessory. Seems daft issuing a new model number, just gets confusing if the hardware is no different - would be easier calling the pack a 930HD or something sensible.
But again, we're all guessing, might've been a typo on the website ;)

I don't think it is just the 930 bundled with HD traffic as that is already available in Europe as the 930HD traffic. You can see this by just switching your country to the Netherlands in the TomTom website.

Either way, makes me glad I waited to buy an x30, and I suppose I'll be waiting a little bit longer now. Thanks for sharing, OP.

Just googled "Go 940 LIVE" and was able to view the cached webpage mentioned above in full.

But you may want to take a look at this link about the Go 940 LIVE

http://www.handtec.co.uk/product.php/1414/tomtom-go-940-live

And it doesn't even start there it appears is actually a complete range of *40 series each with the option of LIVE features

It looks like Handtec have just taken the description of the 930HD Traffic and added the few lines about live services which only really seem to add google search, not something I would tend to use whilst driving.

I was hoping this was going to have integrated HD Traffic receiver rather than it still being an attachment hanging on a wire.

As I said it just looks like Handtec have copied the specs from the 930 trying to be first.

If it says it is a 930, it also says it is a 530/730 in the same sentence.

It is natural progression that TomTom want to give you internet connected functions. The use of the HD traffic reciever ( GPRS modem ) opens up all sorts of revenue streams for them

Skype , MSN, Email etc some of these features depend on network speed etc and hardware limitations.

In car PC anyone?

It mentions Google search but a full web browser would be REALLY useful.
