Hi,
Halfords are currently advertising the Navsure N400i system, which replaces a car radio, and has a "pop up" 7" SatNav screen using TeleAtlas maps. Nice big screen, no more sucker marks encouraging break-ins, but it doesn't have speed camera warnings.
Are there any plans for PocketGPS to support this machine, please?

Hi and welcome.

This is a common question with these sort of Sat Navs and the Built In Car units. However the question isn't when will PGPSW support this unit but if / when will the unit support the database.

PGPSW tries to support as many units as possible, however many units don't support 3rd Party POIs (Points Of Interest) so there is no way to install the database. Even if you can get the files onto the unit the software might not have a facility to do anything with the data. One example is the BMW Sat Nav where (with difficulty) the camera locations and icons can be loaded but it will not alert you to any cameras.

If the Navsure N400i does support 3rd party POIs then there is a chance the database will work with it. If not, it falls at the first hurdle.

Thanks for the quick response.
Navsure say it is possible to add your own POI - they don't actually mention 3rd. party databases of POI . . . short of buying one and trying to add the database, does anyone have any helpful suggestions, please? [/i]

Most POIs are loaded in "databases", whether it's only 1 POI or 15,000 POIs.

I'll have a quick look around but searching might throw up some answers. Also asking the manufacturer for instructions or a guide might help...

A Quick search for the word "N400i" here throws up a few threads including this one

i did a bit more looking and found the ripspeed site has this killer line..

This unit is not pre-loaded with safety camera data. Software and data upgrade for safety camera alerts are not available.

So it would appear the answer is no, you can't add Speed Cams to it. However some of the Kenwood units are Garmin based and can have the database added. I don't know which ones though.

I was considering one of these but decided it looked too attractive to a thief.
According to this:
http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=66891
it runs iGO so it might well take speed cams.

Sal

edit: you beat me to it Paul.
According to the thread you linked, it has the usual iGO speedcams folder and the speedcamupdates.spud file. Why shouldn't it take speedcams? Someone needs to test one.
