First of all, just to say what a cracking site this is...well worth the money!

My query is that I recently got a Blackberry Curve 8320 on Orange (after having used an identical one at work on O2, which I no longer have). The O2 GPS worked a dream, even on trains, but on this phone it does nothing. I rang Orange to get told I'd have to pay around £100 a year to make it work. I have a TomTom for the car, so really no intention of paying that sort of money, plus no-one mentioned that when I was buying it, plus the pitch for this phone is that it has built-in GPS.

The problem seems to be that it needs to have some sort of bluetooth link...but what to? I've trawled the net & tried the Blackberry website, but really can't figure out what I need to do.

Any thoughts gratefully received!

John

have you tried running Google Maps on it? Point the blackberry's web browser to http://google.com/gmm

Yes-I've downloaded Google Maps & a trial version of Telenav.

GM finds my location but only to an accuracy of 1700-5000m depending where I am (guessing it's picking that up from mobile transmitters rather than GPS). For example when I'm at home it puts me about half a mile away.

Telenav just gives me an error message saying 'GPS signal weak. Find better sky view' regardless of where I am.

Thanks.
John

just checked the specs and they don't say anything about a built in GPS. You probably had a 8820 before , not a 8320.

Thanks for taking the trouble to reply-i guess that answers the query! There was a definite bit of mis-selling, but lesson learned all the same. My work phone looked identical to the one I have now (I had them both for a while until I moved job), but I'll check that out anyway & see what model it was.

What I'm looking for now therefore is a cheap bletooth gps receiver!

All the best
John
