I've spent the last hour or so reading through the camera submission posts to try and work out how long it takes for someone to actually get awarded lifetime membership after submitting a camera site, and I can't find anyone who has waited half a year...

I submitted a mobile camera position on 14th January 2008, detailed below:

Addition of: Reversible Mobile (ID#0), Heading: 112, Lat:52.622252438166, Lon:1.2954533100128 (United Kingdom), Speed:30, hiya i live on ashby street and i\'ve seen the police car park at the end of the road a couple of times now with handheld speed camera. They had two guns pointing both directions of queens road. The last time i saw them was yesterday at around 12pm.

The submission came up in the next edition of the database as Pmobile site, as i patiently waited for it to be verified, my year subscription was closing in on me. By april i got a automated email saying my subscription was about to expire, so i emailed Pocket GPS asking what was going on as the site had moved from being a Pmobile to a Mobile Site in the database in March. I got a reply on 28/4/08 saying:

Hi, Mobile sites are not awarded with lifetime subscription until they have not only been verified but also had further independent reports. Thanks MaFt

So i thought fair enough as i've read it takes a long time to varify, so i asked if i should renew my membership or stick it out and wait and was told it was upto me and it could take months.

Well now i;ve waited a further 3 months taking it to just under half a year since i submitted it, and my question is as titled, is that normal to wait this long? i'm not complaining and i'm not saying the whole submission/lifetime membership is a scam or anything negative, i just want to know if i'm in the same boat as everyone else who submits a camera. (plus if i will ever be converted to a lifetime membership)

I have paid for another year today, i do hope that they don't take a year and half to process a single lifetime membership Laughing

Unless we receive further reports confirming your submission what esle can we do? The site has been visited and verified as a feasible location hence its inclusion in the master database. However, as has pointed out to you, mobiles require further independent reports before we award lifetime subs. None have been forthcoming.

Some areas receive more reports than others, little we can do about that I'm afraid and the length of time varies from days to many months.

You're flagged for the award but it won't happen until others have reported it's existence. This rule is in place to prevent the reporting of mobiles being abused.

Its extremely difficult with mobile cameras as an example I submitted a mobile about 4 months ago !! it is on the site as mobile pending further submissions and to be honest I have not seen it again in that position .

It does not mean that it has never been there again since I reported it but perhaps not when a member has gone past it .
I think you will just have to hang in there a little longer

Should we start posting in the forums. Asking for clarification from other drivers? Because the mobilesite I submitted in my area is an absolute hotspot and I have seen them there twice now. Just going at odd times!

Should I place a post stating the location?

When the camera is submitted through the camera submissions page the accuracy of the submission is checked also if it is feasible for a camera to be in the location you submitted !!!it is added to the mobiles pending awaiting further submissions !!
So members will be warned of the camera even though further submissions are awaited .
Members are encouraged to report mobiles when seen again I think it would be very hard to keep track through the forum as there is a tried and tested method which works very well

I believe I am correct but I am sure somebody will correct me if I am wrong

100% correct. Posting in the forum would simply lead to chancers submitting locations using the Google Map.

The system we employ works, granted it may not always be quick but it does ensure accuracy which is the ultimate point. As the camera is already recorded as a pMobile it is still warned of so no risk there.

You already did... (in your first post above). Wink

Anyway, looking at both the submission map and in the latest database files it is now appearing as a "Mobile" not a "pMobile" so it looks like it has been confirmed.

We do have at least one Verifier in your area, plus a number of roving ones (like myself). Nevertheless, even with well over 200,000 members, not all of them are in Norwich, so it can take time for someone else to (A) see a speed camera operating in that location and (B) feel the urge to report seeing it - we ask for reporting of "Mobiles Seen Again", so it's now down to them.

By coincidence, I've been on Queens Road in Norwich a couple of times since you reported the camera (10th April, 19th May and 5th June), but I didn't see it. I didn't find a Fish & Chip shop either - last time I had to go to the Pizza place opposite Hall Road, so if you happen to know of a chippy in the area, I'd be grateful for coordinates for my next visit - Norwich is far enough to mean I have to eat out instead of getting home and to be honest, Burgers, Kebabs and Pizzas are not my favourites. Sad

I was on Queens road recently and like you never saw it !!what time of the day was it ??? near the sainsbury petrol station

As for fish and chip shops there is a eat in fish shop on Drayton high Road just down the road from ASDA I do not know what they are like!! but if you are going near Fakenham there is a good chippie and eat in restaurant in Oak street ,Fakenham(: 52.831197487130645 Longitude: 0.8463737368583679

Have you checked to see if they are on our own PGPSW poi category of 'fish and chips'? If not, you could add them to the category for those of us, like me, who use that category Smile

Excuse me for my ignorance but where did I post the location of the site. Are you getting me confused with the OP? Sorry I'm confused.

I think Andy_P has got you confused for the original poster. Im sure he`ll confirm this, but reading the whole thread again, appears to me like thats whats happened! And i wouldnt post the exact location here, because if its not on the DB, someone could quite easily post it as 'them having seen it'.

One I like is nearer the Airport - at 52.6634, 1.26521

Only good if you're to the NW of Norwich. Smile

Yes I was - apologies.
Your post just seemed to follow straight on from the ones before and I didn't double check, sorry.

No harm in posting the location... Your submission will be logged, so if it was the first you'll be credited.
