I have a question for you.

When using the postcode feature I key in the first 4 digits and it asks me for the address. That's not what I expect from a 'TomTom One XL.' My previous 'TomTom One' worked just fine....

Any ideas please? Embarassed

I have moved this to where it better positioned to receiver more applicable answers, as the original thread was about Garmins.

First of all when you select Navigate to/ Address/ Postcode you are infact making the selection as I have writted or are you trying to do something else? - Mike

Thanks Mike.
No, I'm doing as you say, but I can only type in the first 4 digits ie: RG22.
After that I can only type in the address as usual.

It sort of makes the feature useless doesn't it?

I assume you are in either Holland or UK? - can you connect the device to the PC and shutdown TomTom Home if it fires up. Use Windows Explorer and have a look at the list of folders is there a folder named "zip" if so are there any files in it - Mike

Hi Andy, nice of you to help. I've downloaded the 2 files as suggested and installed them. I'm not sure if the instructions are correct though, or maybe I just don't understand them.

Where do you paste the 2 UK files?

I didn't have a file named zip to replace as the instructions say.

files: Great_Britain.postal
Great_BritainPostal.ver

Just create the folder named "zip" (without the "") in the root of your storage card and put the files in to it, then you will find full postcode support is present - Mike

Now its all working as it should be havew you considered backing up the device to the PC using Windows Explorer? - it is something I would recommend you do sooner rather than later. If you are unsure how to back up using Windows Explorer have a read through the links on the FAQ page which can be found Here - Mike

Thanks Mike but I'm well aware of the importance of doing your own personal backups. I am about to update my real soon.
I also use the TomTom facility just in case. You can never be too safe eh?

Cheers..........

No need...
Sorry to say I hadn't updated the instructions for the latest download location - it used to produce the rather confusing archive file "zip.zip", but now the archive is called "wezipcodes715.zip"
But the instructions are still right when they say:
Quote:
....right click on it and select "Extract all".
It should extract to produce a folder called "zip" with four files inside.
Using Windows Explorer, you can copy and paste that folder onto the TomTom drive, replacing any existing folder called zip that may already be there.

Bonzo-dog, I've edited the instructions to give the new filename; is there anything else you think I should add to make it clearer?

Maybe just point out that the zip 'folder' goes in the root directory or drive.
No need to open the folder.

I had trouble with the rar (unzip) program that wouldn't let me select the folder to paste it, but one of the menu commands allowed me to copy it. (If that makes any sense?) Rolling Eyes

Oh yes, and it all works in firefox too.........

Thanks for that Bonzo, I'll amend the notes. Thumbs Up

By the way, if you are using Windows XP or Vista, you don't need any extra programs to "un-zip" the archive. You can just right click on it and select extract all.
