Just had a few very helpful chats with ALK. I had had problems with 7.7.0.134 on my IPAQ 3970 runnign Windows Mobile 2003 The problem was repeated crashes especially if it had to recalculate the route and also the safety alerts button was always greyed out and it wouldn't integrate any camera updates.

I have an IPAQ 5450 also with Windows mobile 2003. ALK suggested trying it on there - which I did - perfect - all of the problems I had been havign on the 3970, even after a hard reset & re-install seem to be resolved by using it on the 5450 instead.

However there is a problem - the 5450 speaker volume is very low compared with the 3970, this was the reason why HP wouldn't recommend this model for use when they sold CoPilot as their INS system. So while it works it just too quiet to hear especially at speed due to road noise.

So I think I'm looking for a new PDA.... Any recommendations? Ideally I'd like a good sized screen - like the Ipaqs's so round 3.7-4", inbuilt GPS receiver and ideally bluetooth so I can pair it with a phone to use LIVE.

I have looked the the MIOs but these are not listed on the ALK website as compatible. Also there is an Asus one that looks promising.

However would appreciate any advice.

HP seem to have nothing really suitable - the ones they have with GPS appear not to have bluetooth.

Hi ccarmock,

If you're happy with how your 5450 works, then why not just plug in an external speaker? OK it means extra wires about but it's a lot cheaper than getting another PDA. Have a look at the Maplin website for ideas.

Regards,

I must admit I did think of that or whether there was a device to link it to one of those 'fake casettes' but it was the extra wires and setup each time that puts me off that.

Also the 5450 still runs Pocket PC 2003 which is pretty old by todays standards. So am really looking for a WM 6 device, with decent sized screen, inbuilt GPS and bluetooth

Sorry, I have 6 PDAs (1 x iPAQ 3970, 3 iPAQ 2210, 2 x iPAQ 4700), unfortunately the latest operation system they run is Windows 2003 , which is a long way behind of WM6!

I do like the Ipaqs but they just don't seem to have one in the range now that has the right combination of features.

Have a look at This device, it will even act as your phone and has the 3,5" screen - there are very few large screen devices available these days with built in GPS, BT and WiFi - Mike
