Problem:- Unit out of warranty, Toshiba MK2008GAL HD dead after high altitude drive strangely enough.

Replaced HD, no problem, but of course no maps and no backup (new PC only days before!)

TomTom Home invites you "To add a map you own already....." but of course you can't do that or so it seems. You can, of course, buy a new one but as it's just cost £50 to fix an 18 month old unit, which technically I have now lost faith in, I'm reluctant to buy new maps at this stage.

Before contacting support and being asked "Have I tried turning Off and On?" etc, does anyone know how to go about getting a copy of the original maps etc?

I've still got the product activation card for Europe and North America, but having to deal with tech. support is a daunting prospect!

Any help on this would be very much appreciated.....thanks

As you have no backup the only way you can resolve this is to contact TomTom. Don't you have the original map on an SD card?

If you don't then all that's left is to contact TomTom and prove you are entitled to the map and they should release it for you.

Are you sure you don't have a backup of the device on DVD? without this copy of the harddrive from the original device this is going to be very difficult to recover.
You will also need the Loquendo folder for the Text To Speech, this alone is over 4GB in size! - Mike

Well to be honest I think you're asking a lot of them.

I'm quite happy to kick 'em when they need it but if you put yourself in their shoes what are you faced with?

I'm not being funny but they are faced with an out of date unit and someone with no original material and no backup. What would your reaction be?

The 910 came with two years warranty. Give TomTom a call.
