I can't get this to work with my 770...

maybe it is Vista?

do you have to have the lock enabled - using a code?

Lock is just sliding the power switch to the right.

You could always send an email to garmin and ask what's up. But it sounds like Vista is the difference. However, I don't know why that would make a difference.

You can do this without it being attached to a PC - I have a USB charger which is for my Blackberry but I also use it for my 760.

I plug in the power cable, wait until the device has booted into storage mode, lock using the slider, remove the power cable, wait until it starts rebooting and then plug the power back in.

It then boots normally and I can just unlock it and use it while it's charging.

That should be handy too.
