Dennis, that seems like a bug on their side. My friend who has 930 and 8.00 map been offered 7.15 as a upgrade Smile

After emailing TomTOm they fixed the thing, and he was offered 8.05.

So in my opinion just keep talking to TomTom filks.

Tell them you have two devices, and one of them went perfectly fine, while the other one is offered 7.15 which makes no sense. They won't question your judgement or will tell you 7.15 is the latest this way Smile

And by the way, what is most frustratning with LMG is that the legimitate users have much more problems updating their map to the latest one than the the 'dark side' ones. They should really make the thing work as advertised, because people are experiencing problems with LMG over and over again :/

Smile but really I don't understand how it could be any different for you though, hope this isn't a common occurrence at TomTom!

I'm afraid it really is a common occurrence.

Spot on. You know, I know it, everybody here knows it. It's been a bug since they came up with their wonderful Latest Map Guarantee marketing hype. It didn't work for x20s which were bought just before v705, it didn't work for devices bought just before v710, nor for devices bought before v715, nor for those bought before v720. They did the same with x30s for v8.00 to v8.05.

Keep talking to them? How do you talk to somebody who gives you the same answer next time?

This is ridiculous!! I have proved purchase of my van and I told you the device did not come with it, but was sent separately and arrived on 24th April. A £9,500 van and a £100 device. I think you should escalate this NOW - you are besmirching a promotional campaign by not looking properly at the evidence I have presented and by not considering the promotional campaign - it is obvious that Renault dealers will not hold stocks of the devices and therefore the despatch of them to people will be undertaken separately after the purchase of the van. Do you have any suggestion as to how I can prove when I collected it?

I have proved that I AM entitled to Latest Map Guarantee by giving you a copy screen shot from Home. TomTom Home says "Your new map is available Click 'Get it now' to download and install it for free'. I have not downloaded the v715 map shown when I look to download, because that is not the latest map - I presume you are able to check that I have not downloaded it and so you should be able to replace the 715 map with the 720 map.

Will you please escalate my problem NOW to somebody who can deal with it.

They sure do, 0845 161 0009, Monday to Friday, except those Fridays and Mondays to Wednesdays when there's a public holiday anywhere in Europe, plus one Wednesday a month when they do staff training??

I can imagine trying to prove ownership over the phone.

Dennis, i know this is a pain for you but can't you get onto Renault and find out where exactly they source these Devices from, they must of had to tell the supplier to send you one. If they can let you know who they are perhaps you could push them for date of despatch etc.
I tend to feel that overall instead of honouring this LMG offer TomTom look for anyway to wriggle out of it.
I guess i was fortunate, i snatched my 720T off of flea bay (brand new) and after furnishing the Paypal receipt i was surprised when they made the map available.
Ok, i was entitled to it, but TomTom have a problem with LMG and warranties when people buy from Ebay so i am led to believe.

The reason why the above correspondence is frozen at 5 days ago is I'm waiting for Renault now - and I'm worried they may have been taken over by TT Support!!

Any progress? Maybe we should start a "TomTom vs DennisN" thread, modeled after the vintage "Connectocasino vs Marcolino" thread on CasinoMeister... since based on your testimony TomTom seem like they're starting to rival Connectocasino support! Confused Sad

However, the most shocking thing for me remains the fact that they've been pushing a faulty firmware version for a very long time now when it would be so easy to just take it down off the servers again. Imagine how many users there are that don't have the benefit of this forum and that blindly download the latest firmware...

Well, progress of sorts. I received the letter from Renault on Wednesday, scanned it and rushed it off to TomTom, who replied at 5:45pm on Wednesday

Today being Friday 6:10pm with no further contact, I presume I'm down for the weekend (which just happens to be yet another Bank Holiday Evil or Very Mad )

I'm now off to see if I can Google that connecter thing

Dear Mr 59,

Thanks for the update

This has been escalated to a supervisor with a request that a map be assigned to your profile

Our apologies for the inconvenience and your co-operation and understanding is very much appreciated

I have tried to get my latest map upgrade but I am getting a message from the server saying that the re is a nrwer map available, but that I am not eligible. I know that other people have sucessfully upgraded their maps, so there is not a problem with the server. Can I have my upgrade please?

If it makes you feel any better, I was escalated this morning , but I think they forgot to tell the supervisor!
I am now going to be kicking my heels till next week as I will be away for a break. Angry

I was curious, used up my LMG about 5 weeks ago updating my WE 705 map to 715. I clicked on LMG to see what would happen now that I've had it more than 30 days. I have WE 720 which I purchased as I'd already used my LMG, and was told my new map was ready to download and to "get it now".

When I looked, it was my previous version 715 that was on offer to be downloaded.

I sometimes seriously wonder if TomTom have any kind of structure or controls in place!
We have 200,000+ members, I will bet you that 25% of them will all have a different TomTom story to tell. Wink

That is a laughable demonstration that my theory is correct - they haven't yet worked out how to get v720 into the "latest map" area of wherever Home finds it

From your point of view, it's very serious. The downloads you buy are normally available to be downloaded again and again for a year. Handy if you trash the map on your device and haven't got a backup (yes, OK, I know you've got seventeen backups, smartypants!!). So if worst comes to worst, at present you only have v715 available to download again. Go on, start another story with TomTom! Seriously.

Thanks Dennis, I hadn't though about that. I went into TomTom "My Account" and sure enough it says I don't own any account. Also I don't seem to have an email invoice for it although My credit card was charged for it.

Yes I do have several backups 2 or 3 of them having my latest map but I'd be in trouble if I had a major computer failure. I've got the original out-of-the box application on a CD bu the maps are too big to go on a CD. I seem to be able to do some sort of backup to DVD but, as I can't wee the files I don't entirely trust it. I don't seem to be able to simply copy files to a DVD like I can to a CD. Anyway I've opened an email discussion with TT support.

A very interesting point, how many people have the all important backup on the PC and then the PC either burns out or the Hard Drive dies, I have had both the above happen recently.
Removable media backups are the answer, but I wonder how many of us take the time and trouble to do this? The DVD media is the obvious choice due to the disk capacity, although DAT and Travan are two other large media stores. An other option is to use an external Hard Drive if you have one.

What software are you using to write the data to the removable disks?
You should be able to use blank DVD media to fully back up any of the TomTom devices, the best way is first copy the whole lot to the PC hard drive, then use a disk burning software package to burn the data from the backup to the DVD disk.
Once written you should then be able to read the files/ folders on the DVD just like any other disk, so if your DVD's you have created to date cannot be read when re-inserted to the PC they are little more use than beer mats - Mike

Well, I have two internal and one external hard drives with copies of my backups on one internal & the external one. But since my last post I have discovered that the Nero backup programme I've been using to backup my documents etc to the external drive, will also backup to DVD.

I have now backed up the device in it's current state and found that I could then open my TT Backup on the DVD so I could copy the files back to the device if I needed to, or I could use Nero to restore them.
