Very straight forward. I suggest you use a permanent live rather than a switched so that the TomTom does not have to look for satellites every time you turn off the engine.

Also remember that everytime you remove the unit from the cradle it powers off.

thanks. i plan to have it installed at the back of the car. i actually intend to have it on switched in case i forget to remove the receiver from the cradle.

i am concerned about some messages i read blaming the cradle for the receivers' failures. when did you get your bluetooth receiver? and when did you have the cradle wired?

thanks.

Last October was when I had it wired. The unit once locked up when new, it reset and since then no problems at all.

got my bluetooth gps cradle hardwired at the back of the car underneath the rear dashboard. totally invisible. at first, the gps won't turn on automatically on ignition when it doesn't require charging. explained my situation to tomtom using their support site and they immediately asked me to fill-up their online RMA form. dhl picked up the GPSR on tomtom's expense and i received the replacement within a week. and it's been working great!

I understand that TomTom no longer supply the cradle, is this related to the switch on problem? If so of those who have received a replacement are you still using the cradle?

i really don't understand why tomtom is no longer supplying the cradle. i think it is a big advantage over the competition. very useful. and i don't think it is because of the problems they were having with the bluetooth dying. when they asked me to fill up their RMA form, they told me to tell them if i still have the problem even with the replacement and they will send me a cradle. the replacement is a new unit. new serial number, and i regularly get 7 or 8 fixes, as opposed to 5 or 6 with the old unit. and it's faster to get a cold fix.

Hi a4ace

Im planning on hardwiring my TTN3 too. I was just wondering how exactly you managed to install it without it being visible. How come you dont have problems picking up satellites? What exactly is your setup? Are you using the Tomtom car kit? Thanks.

Yep, those photos look great.

Amazing that it still works through the parcelshelf. Whats it made of?
Most seem to be about 6mm plywood, covered in cloth.

Mine's screwed to the top of the parcel shelf, and when it's parked I just chuck a road atlas or London A-Z map on top to prevent theft.

I was really surprised that the unit keeps receiving satellites even through 100 pages of paper!

don't know what it's made of. don't think it's wood as there's a few moldings. my thought is it's just plastic covered with cloth or something.
