The plastic ring in my GO720T where the traffic aerial plugs in has snapped off and even though the aerial will still plug into the unit the traffic doesn't work (I presume the ring is there as a separator for the metal contact bits?). Has anyone else had this happen?
I've probably only plugged the aerial in to the device about 20 times in total.
What is the best approach for getting it repaired? - back to Halfords?
If it has to go back to TT to be repaired how long do you think I'll have to wait to get it back?

The connector has 6 poles to it, the outer barrel contains two of them, if the device is less than one month old take it back to where you bought it from, if its older contact TomTom support on 0845 161 0009 it might be best to send the RDS back as well as that might have caused the failure - Mike

Same happened to my wife's 720 which is 3 months old.

Raised a support query on the tomtom website and sent a photo. They sent out prepaid packaging and we posted the unit away last friday.

We got a royal mail card through the door mid week and a new/repaired unit was collected today Smile

Quite impressed with the turnaround...

Martin

Thanks guys. Just spoken to TT and they're sending out the pre-paid return envelope today. Sounded like it is quite a common problem.

To help avoid future repercussions do you think it would be worthwhile buying a holding unit that fastens to the dashboard?

If there is a problem with the plug on the RDS device it could easily damage the repaired device, I would de-mod the RDS device and send it back to be honest - Mike

I have removed the 'extra' wire, but it is clear I've had it in bits, hole at one end and marks around the edge where I prized it apart.

will it matter?

perhaps they'll send me a new one?

When I sent my modified tmc unit back for replacement I wrapped it in bubble wrap and used plenty of sticky tape to make sure that the bubble wrap didn't fall off Wink. They would have been able to see through the bubble wrap that it was a tmc unit but may not have bothered to spend the time unwrapping it to check for modifications.

They replaced it without any query.

In your case I guess that the plug might not need the bubble wrap but the "egg" does? Laughing
