Hi,
No, a Bluetooth dongle plugged into the Garmin's USB port will not work becuase the GPS is not a USB Host (and also no drivers are available).
However, this device can do more than the PC Mobile adapter because it can also be set to 9600 baud for Garmin protocol (to transfer tracks and routes, etc.). But it did take me some time to set it up properly.
You'll also need a Garmin round plug to 9pin D (COM port) adapter cable (e.g. from PC Mobile) and a battery pack, e.g. with a mini-USB plug.
