is there any way to stop the TT720 from auto shut down when connected to PC.?

Every 3 minutes i have to cancel shut down, and it gets annoying.

Try a pin reset and see whether that helps.

If not, check, under Preferences--Battery Savings--make sure turn off when external power lost is UNCHECKED and, if it was, perhaps the usb connector you have the docking station connected to on your pc is underpowered. Each hub has a max total power it can output and, if many usb devices are connected (and drawing power from) the one hub, there may not be enough getting sent to the docking station. Try another usb port.

AFAIK, it is a feature. It's there to help the unit charge quicker, as the USB port cannot supply full charge current.

Mine only does it if you are NOT actually using it.

I think the reason is that the USB port is only powered with 5V, rather than 12 V from your car cigarette lighter.

So (as Andy_P2002 mentioned) the 720 shuts down, when not in use.

NNNNNOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

The cigarette lighter adapter still only provides 5 Volts (just with a higher current capacity).
On units that only have a USB socket handling the power as well as data it is obviously harder to do by accident, but if you stick 12 Volts up ANY TomTom it's instant death.

I know.... Crying or Very sad

It can be done by creating a file named noautosuspend.dat and placing a 1 inside it and putting in on the root of your 720.

How do I do that? Can I create a .txt file, put a 1 in it and change the file extension?

Sorry to ask what is probably to you a stupid question, but I'm not used to playing around with system files? Stupid

Yes you can use Note pad then Windows Explorer to rename the resultant file extension, Windows will complain and warn that this is not a good idea but disregard the warning, then put the file on the device. - Mike

Open Notepad. Put a '1' in the window (no quotes). File--Save As "noautosuspend.dat" (file type set for all files).

Cautionary note: Make sure under Windows--Control Panel--Folder options, you have UNCHECHECKED 'hide known file extensions'. Look (using Explorer) at the file you saved. Make sure it does NOT show noautosuspend.dat.txt. If it does, rename to delete the stuff in red, I've shown. Save the file in the root of the 720

I've done that, but it still closed down. Confused

Never mind. I'll just carry on turning it back on!

Sure the file is exactly correct, in name, content and location? If so, try a pin reset.

Look at the file name and extension, I bet it is named 'noautosuspend.dat.txt' it should be 'noautosuspend.dat' without the '' in order to work correctly.
Make sure that you have Windows Explorer set to display the file extensions otherwise it is too easy to re-name the file and get double extensions - Mike

Thought I cautioned about that a couple of posts higher, Mike. Rolling Eyes

Maybe, it's the Canadian accent that made my post confusing, eh? Laughing Laughing
