Hi just a quick question about service pack 2. Anyone know if I need to install service pack 1 first on my S50?

Cannot tell you definatey, but as they have removed SP1 from the downloads, and there are retail units out there without the SP1 built-in, I would have thought its a stand-alone update - like the first its a full build not an update download

Didn't know SP2 existed (and check the Navman site every few days) so thanks for the info - downloading now!

The information in this article applies to the following Navman models: F10, S30, S50, S70, S80 and S90i (not S72).

Summary

This service pack will deliver the following changes, enhancements and fixes:
Enhancements to Traffic functionality
Shop Demonstrator error fixed
Minor bug fixes
General Improvements and Enhancements

Enhancements to Traffic functionality
Various improvements have been made to traffic functionality in certain regions.

Shop Demonstrator error fixed
A problem has been resolved regarding the Shop Demonstrator not functioning properly when a security PIN has been applied.

Minor bug fixes
Minor bug fixes have been made to the software.

Thanks for the response. I went ahead and installed it and it works fine. Haven't noticed any changes yet but I didn't have any problems before anyway.

Mine seems to run twice as fast through the menus now, hope it stops it rebooting, and has it corrected the small poi.s database problem?

Yes response is smoother than previously all round

Regarding POIs it doesn't seem to be an issue that can or will be resolved - with SP2 or the forthcoming 2nd edition - it is (I am reliably informed) down to all custom POIs residing in onboard memory - there is space for 12,000 (in reality I find it a little less than this) and after that they start to have serious memory allocation issues with the software, thus creating the crashes / reboots / slow response we've all experienced. At least now I know why, I can accept it, as it was never a major issue for me anyway (I run with the subscribed Navman Speed Camera Database and the PGPSW mobiles only and its fine)

surely then a firmwae fix would be possible to allow any excess poi's to be stored on an sd card? quick check in the nvdesk software that says 'warning - there are over 11,000 pois here - these MUST be installed to an sd card'

Not sure if it is really a storage issue but rather a ram issue with usable memory and the way in which SmartST handles them rather than stores them

Well, it seems that this fixed a crash bug where certain common TMC messages here in Sweden would crash the device. My s90i used to crash every 5-15 minutes if I had the TMC antenna attached, making it useless with TMC. Now it actually seems to work.

Guys and gals,

Please can somebody clarify what exactly is meant by "Enhancements to Traffic functionality"? Does this mean the S-series now gives us projected delay information (a bizarre omission when the series was originally launched)? If so, I might be tempted to get my S90i out of the loft.

ive upgraded to sp2 and to be honest i think its taken a step backwards. The unit has crashed more times this weekend then ever before. ok i havent yet to try it without any additional poi`s ie the speed camera database to which i have only installed 3 of the possible types of cameras. the unit seems to respond slower when pressing any of the buttons and im finding everytime it decides to reboot itself, before coming up with the accept screen for some reason it goes straight onto the bluetooth phone screen and just sits there until you tap the screen. to say i am a very unhappy customer of this product and that it has definately put me off buying any navman products in the future. I think it speaks volumes in itself that a product under a year old has already had 2 service packs released just goes to show that this unit was never bench tested before being released onto the market. I think navman should hang thier heads in shame over this one for all the unhappy customers who paid top money for the unit.

I agree totally withh Abbz. This product should never have been released without proper bug testing first. It was rushed out for the Christmas market so they could rub their hands together and look at the money rolling in. It is one of the slowest Sat Navs that I have ever bought as regard screen refresh. Still has the bug where if you accidently push the camera button a couple of times it will take a picture of nothing (if the lens cover is closed). Still doesn't recognise button presses first time.

Sorry to hear you guys continue to have bad (and worsening!) experiences. Can't say I'm surprised, though - it bears out my view that the S-series is a shoddy product at its core that no amount of software "elastoplasts" are going to solve. The very fact that NavMan have been so vague over what issues SP1 and SP2 are supposed to have addressed (eg "Enhancements to Traffic Functionality", "Minor bug fixes" - these tell me nothing!) indicate that they really aren't serious about attempting to sort out the problems that bedevil this range.

I'm glad to hear the TMC problem for owners in Sweden appears to have been resolved - presumably this was a simple software fix. But, overall, there still doesn't seem to be any commitment to resolving some of the more basic software glitches. For example the "ABCDE" keypad being displayed instead of the "QWERTY" one for postcode input. And the abysmal implementation of multi-stop journeys.

I just hope Navigon gets its act together with the 8110. In a way it's pleasing to be kept waiting for this as it may be that they are spending time ironing out the bugs before releasing it to the market.
