Nice going! I saw that file & contents a few weeks ago when I was snooping around, just looking at the file contents of files in all folders. However, I failed to realize the implication of the number, then.

What makes you people tick? I've just looked at that file - took my heart in my hands and double clicked it - and then closed it without doing anything AND I think I've got away with it!! No way would I dare add a 9. What about the line just above it that says something like "If your name is Andy or Tim, you are only allowed updates per week = 650"? I suppose they had a similar thing back in the early days when they were getting more corrections than they could deal with?

All this is rhetorical from me - I'll just wait until you lot tell TomTom to fix it!

(But you've got to admit you heard about the 99999 glass ceiling from me first - there's something to be said for being dumb).

Ok guys, how do you get the extra nine in the line.
I have worked out it is not as simple as hitting an edit button.

No worries found it.
A bit of sorting out getting it to save the updated text but we've got there in the end.

If anyone is stuck they can follow these simple instructions . . . . C'mon Dennis where's your sense of adventure Wink

The first thing I did was back up the file.

To open it use a text editor like Worpad like so:-

Right-click on the file Open with | Choose program

Select Wordpad from the list but make sure the box "Always use this program . . . ." is unticked (un-checked).

Once you've opened the file scroll down until you see the line:-

installedPatches = Math.min(Math.round(installedPatches), 99999);
missedPatches = Math.min(Math.round(missedPatches), 99999);

Add an extra 9 to each entry then click File | Save.

Go back into HOME and check out your skills at typing a '9' Wink

Now you've spoilt the joke!

Actually, if you double click it, it'll open in Internet Explorer and look really pretty, colours and all.

Is the file Read Only?

Right click on it and go to Properties.

Make sure the Read Only box is empty

Thanks bodgerbaz, it wasn't read only but i managed to get a copy done to my desktop, edited it as per normal and this allowed me to save it, pasted it in and removed the original.

All done i now have 108564
Thanks so much for your assistance with this.

Thanks too D4VE, i really can't remember having home open but as for preaching to the converted, no worries i am open to all help. sometimes a few of these tweaks just elude me, i find if i walk away and come back later i generally get there with help from the knowledgable people on here.

It's the security settings of the file that need to be changed. Right mouse button then Properties|Security - You will see that you only have read and read & execute rights. You'll have to change that so you can write to the file.
