So my update DVD has arrived, and I've got a C510 with maps internally.

Can I leave the maps on the 510 intact (v9), and write the new 2008 maps on to an SD card with a card writer (as I said, it's the update disk I've got). I kinda figure a 2G card is good enough for europe maps?

I've not really played with mapsource that much (have used metroguide and metrowizz to create routable ones from there, though).

Also, do you get a second unlock code (I've still got my i3), or will I only be able to unlock for my 510?

Cheers.

Don't know about the unlock code but you can update a Nuvi300 the way you want to do yours, select all the maptiles and send to the card instead of the unit .
Edit: then select 2008 maps from the units map setup.

Just as an update, I used mapsource to send my maps to an SD card in a reader (selected UK and Ireland, plus western europe - so around 1.1G), and works fine in my C510, I can select the new maps from the map menu.

And it's got the roads that were missing from my V9 maps - woohoo.

Haven't yet looked into the second unlock code, but the booklet that came with the DVD suggests it's possible, by mygarmin suggests otherwise (it would cost).

I was under the impression Garmin dropped the second unlock with the v9 maps....

See this thread . It's the only one i can find at the minute but plenty of others seem to suggest you can get a second code if you ask Garmin nicely....

I'd be interested to find out too....
