Thanks PaulB2005 and DennisN for the advice.

I now have the database installed with voices and it works great, atleast on demo, I haven't tested it out on a journey but there is no reason it shouldn't work.

Just a couple more questions.
1,What files do I need to remove to get rid of the TomTomcamera stuff. There are 3 files that I can find in the Maps folder i.e. Safety_Cam_UK_TomTom.ov2, Safety_Cam_UK_TomTom.ov2.dct, Safety_Cam_UK_TomTom.Ov2.ver. There are also other files named Radar_BE_TomTom.ov2 etc, ect. Should I delete or rename to e.g. txt

2, do I need to configure the camera warnings every time I download the updates.

Thanks TeeeJay

No need to re-config anything next update, just overwrite the exiting files with the newer ones.

For the TomTom files you'd be best removing all three (or disabling them in the PLUS menu?).

Safety_Cam_UK_TomTom.ov2 is the UK cameras, Radar_BE_TomTom.ov2 is the Belgique ones etc etc. TomTom's camera files have three for each entry, ov2, dct and .ver

Thanks Darren,

I've now disabled the TT cameras.

What would you suggest for distances before cameras for warnings? I've set all mine to 300Yards.

The advice we give is to times speed by 10 i.e. 30mph Cameras = 300yds, 50 = 500yds etc etc.

Or use this table, 20 seconds should be more than sufficient warning:

Hi all...

Have just subscribed to the "speed Camera Database" and was wondering if anyone could help with a question...

I have the Garmin Nuvi 660fm and was wondering, does the camera database for this unit contain voice alerts for each speed zone, ie 30mph 40mph etc.... If not could someone tell me how id go about adding these?

Thanks for any info...

Our advice is to just disable the pre-installed Garmin safety cameras rather than uninstalling.

Are they not just handled by the normal POI system, so you disable or delete them like any other POI?
(I've had a good Google around, but can't find anything definite to say they are, but it seems to imply it in several places).

If they ARE done like that, details of changing or switching off proximity alerts are on p48 of the 660 owners' manual (http://www8.garmin.com/manuals/1262_OwnersManual.pdf

Don't switch off the Proximity Alerts or you'll lose the PGPSW warnings too.... There is a specific way to switch off the Garmin database.

Sorry, didn't make myself clear. I of course meant " ...switching off proximity alerts FOR THAT PARTICULAR POI category", but that seems to be the right manual page as it refers to "Settings, Proximity Points, Alerts,". Not my fault if it doesn't mention the cameras! Laughing

Just downloaded and installed the Database, massively impressed! Haven't driven with it as of yet, but checked on the maps a few cameras that the TT database didnt pick up and your database has them, well worth the £19 in my book.
