Nuvii 770 - Camera Database Garmin Vs PocketGPSWorld?

After using 770 for a month, have to admit the camera alert system looks quite good, something about the way it operates tends to "persuade" you to drive at the correct speeds, which is a good thing.

However looking at that the downloaded Garmin download database for the whole of January it appears to always be the same. Naturally I asked Garmin if it was being updated on a regular basis but sadly could get no sense from their support.

Before fully subscribing to their system I would like to know if the PocketGPSWorld database will interact with the Garmin warnings in the same way?

For example will it be directional, speed sensitive and warn about mobile speed zones, or will it just be POI's on the map?

unfortunately they are not directional (garmin do not offer directional support for 3rd party pois...)

you will get the relevant icon displayed on screen at the location and will have a red bar at the top saying there is a 'speed alert' ahead and constant bongs if you exceed the set limit.

we treat mobiles slightly differently. the garmin database uses a mobile 'zone' where as the PGPSW one will alert you to the actual place where mobile cameras are known to operate. we also go one step further and provide 'pMobile' sites - p=pending. these are sites people have reported to us but we have not confirmed for accuracy - use them at your own risk but people have found them useful at times.

... its a difficult decision, tempted to try both but there could be a lot of clutter, probably a case of using one or the other.

PGPSW looks better for accuracy and being up to date, Garmin system is nice, plus theres the cost of running two, its a tough one!!

There must be a solution somewhere, I'll give it some thought, thanks again...

It's a simple choice. Garmin's are slightly more 'integrated' and have directional warnings, ours are cheaper, more comprehensive and supported by a user community here where you can get help, suggest features etc etc. You can also qualify for a lifetime subscription with us if you are a subscriber and are the first to report a new camera, update information etc.
