Thanks Dennis, -- Will try your suggestion tomorrow.

The card I have bought is a SanDisk 2.0gb standard speed.
The card I have in my TomTom, which I have just tried, and is fine,is a Kingston 512mb standard speed.
This card was an upgrade from the original one supplied with the 510,which I managed to transfer the data across to OK.
I think, listening to your, and Andy`s replies,I will forget about this DVD,as it seems I have bought a pig, although the maps of Europe seem good.
The main reason I want to upgrade my UK maps is because, quite often whilst driving around the country, I have encountered new roads which are not shown by my sat nav.
I see TomTom have a 50% off off on maps.
Should I go this route?
PS If only I was as young as 42 Crying or Very sad
Kind Regards
Colin

Yes. Or wait a little and pay full price for the next new map which looks to be imminent with TT offering cheap ones right now (three days left). (the new maps won't be coming out on 1st February though).

Some good advice here....followed the instructions by copying all the files to a new (1G) SD card (not a cheapo!).
When I rebooted, TT asked for an activation code for the map Shocked (the old one I WAS looking to update until I noticed the post to say that a new release was imminent!). Map still works fine off the old card.

Any thoughts please??
Retiscent to download anything new to the new card until I know it works okay.....

(Went to TTCODES - went thru that rigmarole and got a message to say the product was already activated. Sheesh......)

Thanks in anticipation

The TT asking for an activation code is normal (it always does that if you use a copy).

But if you have both the "Product code" for the map and the "Device code" for your machine and input them both into the form at http://www.ttcode.com/, it should generate a new activation code for you (unless you've already done it before in the last 6 months?).

See also What is Software Activation ? on the TT support site.

You haven't said anything about your setup (model, map version etc.), the above is correct for the older maps, but a recent map downloaded via Home gets activated to the unit while downloading, so it should automatically work on the correct Go.

I think we need a bit more info first to get some clues as to what might have gone wrong.

Andy - Thanks for the quick reply!
My TT is a GO510; just updated to the latest application version on connection to home (7.162). Map version is GB + Major roads in WE v650.
New card is SanDisk 1 G Ultra II. Copied all files (using explorer) off old disc to PC and copied back verbatim to the new card. Booted off this card & was prompted for map activation code. TRIED entering the activation code derieved from TTCodes - recognised my device and map - but inputting code gives "invalid code"....
Only other thing that has changed - when booting the device with EITHER card, I get a brief message "Unable to store settings - file access error". (Checked to make sure cards are not physically locked - they aren't!) But still able to use the device (with the old card) in spite of this message.....
VERY wary about paying to pull new maps off the TT site without some good advice (PLEASE!!)
Appreciate your help - George.

Well, with a surfeit of threads, I suppose I might stand a chance of beating one of you at least - just need to go bone up on Inter Continental Nasties first as I know nothing about them. Hang in there! Twisted Evil
