I noticed a police patrol using a mobile camera in a lay-by on a new stretch of dual carriageway which doesn't appear yet on the Speed Camera Database submission map. How can I submit this for inclusion in the database. (the dual carriageway opened in the summer of 2007).

If you go to this page and then look half way down you will see (Expand for single camera input) in a yellow background. At the right of it you will see a + sign, click on it and fill in the details using the map below it to find the position of the camera.

If you park in the lay-by concerned, then tap the satellite strength area of the screen, your current grid co-ordinates will be displayed. when you get back to your PC, you can use these to find the location on the submission map.

However, will such a submission be of any use? It certainly won't work for anyone who sets their TomTom to "Warn only when on route", as it can't devise a route if it doesn't know there is a road there!

It would be an interesting experiment for other settings and other devices.

All that has been said so far is that the road is not shown on the current version of the Google map. There's nothing to say it isn't there on the current TomTom or Garmin maps. Even if it isn't, having the camera there before the update can only be good thing. Very Happy

I use a Garmin Nuvi 660. I understand that the latest 2008 NT mapping version has just been released. One would assume that my new dual carriageway is charted on this version.

That's a VERY big assumption to make! It often takes a couple of years for maps to catch up with reality.

Thanks for the warning. Clearly I need to be circumspect before I go forking out upgrade fees on an annual basis!

I wouldn't use the word circumspect, it's not strong enough. Be very careful, inquisitive and ask people first. Have a look at the google map on this website to see if new roads are there etc. before forking out on 'upgraded' maps that have no discernable difference.
