720 repairs at CRC Glenrothes

After having changed my phone twice and exchanged my 720 I eventually got TomTom to accept it as a repair for the hands free functionality.
Waited 7 days for their 'send you a shipping bag in 24hrs', and posted it to CRC at Glenrothes. The 5 - 10 day repair has run into it's 20th day and despite two calls to CRC was still waiting for some news.

Tonight at 7:30pm a charming gentleman from CRC rang me apologizing for not contacting me before and gave me the following explanation.

TomTom have told them that there is a problem with my model (720), and that the issue over the FET's used will hopefully be resolved shortly.
He also explained that they (CRC), have a large backlog of repairs so return will not be immediate.

(also bought an active Brody mount for my PT Cruiser. Looks cool but not keen on the coiled wire hanging down in front of the cd player)

I am sorry you are having to wait so long. I sent my 910 off to CRC and I got a very speedy response, teh only problem was that they had not fixed the fault. I was having problems with the clock and alos with Bluetoorh. After many calls to TomTom my 910 is now with them in Holland, I will keep my fingers crossed. It does mean since the original fault in August, I have actually been withut my 910 for aproximately 7 weeks.
So do not give up hope

TomTom have IGNORED 3 requests for info on when I am to expect my 720 back, repaired, despite my pointing out that it was only courteous to answer a customers email in the second two.

I rang CRC again and left a message with the receptionist requesting I get an update on the situation.

Went out today (lost my way!! no 720!!), & on my return there was a message on the answer phone from Paul of CRC.

"The unit, (my 720), is being held awaiting a resolution from TomTom who have an issue with this model"

They now have had it longer than me, which was a point I made to TomTom.

My 2nd 720 (the 1st was faulty and replaced by the retailer) died and went off to the repair centre on 12-10-07 - after weeks and weeks of emailing TT (most of the messages were ignored) and many phone calls they agreed to send me a new unit. That was on 19-11-07. I'm still waiting for it .......

I am now considering my options - if TT were a UK Company I would be taking them to Court without further ado - Can anyone tell me what the legal situation is with TT being based outside the UK - can they be taken to the Small Claims Court in the same way that a UK Company can - or does any legal action have to be done in the country in which they are based (The Netherlands) ?

Today I received my 720 back from Glenrothes, repaired with the hands free working.
As a bonus I must have some great looking FET's (Field Effect Transistors), as the repair note states:-
REPLACED COSMETIC PART
REFLASHED UNIT
or do you think the whole unit has been replaced?

The part no. used was 4M00.002
Serial no. M66267A00849

I don't know my original serial no. so not sure whether that refers to the unit or the 'part' used.

I had to go through the set up again and also pair my phone, a "non-compatible!!" motorola VX3. Put on the latest cams and then find I have no favourites. Does anyone know if I can re-load them without using an old backup?

Favourites are stored in the MapSetting.cfg File, found in the Map Folder.

You would need to copy that from the last backup.

Yes Andy, I Googled it after my post here and discovered that. There is no clear indication though as to whether the part no. was used as a reference to the component repaired or to the component replaced.

It was the 'cosmetic' bit that got me wondering. If they had a fault why the heck did they want to hide it.

Anyway it's back 'home' and am extremely pleased with it, as am driving to Nethybridge for the Xmas & New Year and I can get lost just going to the 'loo !!

I have a TT 710 with hands-free problems diablo. Could you describe what your actual fault was with your TT 720 hands-free as i think i am going to have to send mine away for repair also. When i am setting up a bluetooth connection it gets to 40% and then (an error ocurred with your bluetooth connection) appears in red writing. Is this similar to your fault.

My problem was with the actual hands free operation, not the bluetooth connection.
When I made a call I could hear the recipient but they could not hear me.

Your problem appears to be in setting up the pairing. The phone & 710 must both be on with the phone in 'find me' mode. The connection is made when 'connection accepted' is selected on the phone and the code entered (0000 four zero's).
If the problem is after you have paired, and trying to set up a plus or traffic account then it could you are PAYG & not contract (this is why I can't set one up on mine).

I hope this info is correct and answers your query. I'm sure a more experienced member will be able to give you more accurate help.
