You'd posted a question about Garmin products in a TomTom forum area. I've moved it to the Garmin area.

Moved to more appropriate forum....

Hi simbad1980 and welcome.

This page should help you compare the Garmin Nuvi range and pick a model you like.

Personally I've not heard that at all.

In that case the Nuvi 200 would probably suffice. The Nuvi 200W is the Widescreen version.

thanks mate, ive done quick reserch and got told not to good?
but anyway mate, thanks for your help

Garmin "not to good"?

Garmin and TomTom are probably the two leading sat nav brands. Look through the forums here in general and see which brand has the highest number of complaints regarding units failing and malfunctioning updates. It's not Garmin. Garmin also has one of the best Customer Care & After Sales reputations too.

Where did you get this info from and what exactly did it say?

had a quick google reserch last nite and there were two reports saying that, garmin nuvi range is having a difficoulty in accuring satelites while stationary, so you have drive until it starts working (calculating route)........
do a google reserch and it should come up?
many thanks paul

It would be easier if you just linked to the reports as i have no idea what you typed into Google to find the reports. If these reports were true then there would be many reports here. I have seen none.

Please read your PMs and respond in this forum and not by PM. Thank you.

So you're not persuaded by the overall POSITIVE reviews?

Sure ANY product (toasters, cars, CDs) you buy is going to have a few people that aren't happy with it, but you seem to have picked a few negative comments from a field of mostly positive comments.

If you based all your buying decisions on the negatives then you'd never buy anything.

Finally i think the most telling factor is the fact that Garmin products have a good reputation here and there don't seem to be huge numbers of people here with reception problems.

Don't take my word for it - have a browse through the forums yourself....

Just "upgraded" from a Streetpilot i3 to a Nuvi 250.
A fantastic unit so far for the money.
No complaints whatsoever.

well , thank you verry much paul. I think you are rite what are you saying, i shouldnt make my decision on the base of few negative reports. Ive have had a garmin street pilot c320 which ive bought two years ago and purchased additional insurance cover, verry recently my unit start crashing and cigarette charger wire start to deteriorate. So i took it back to the shop for repair and few days later they called me to say my pilotc320 has been written off and should receive money back..... so thats why im doing this little reserch on garmin units as i would like to purchase another one.
Your halp has been appreciated, cheers mate!

Have been using Garmin streetpilot C510 for about 18 months now, I don't know if Nuvi has same software? Never had a minutes trouble with it, have only spoken to Garmin twice, once to get waypoint software for my PC (they sent a free CD), and once to buy European maps (about £35 for UK+Europe ). Great satellite chip, can get 4 out of 5 bars in my lounge, accuracy is first class, arrival times are spot on, you can avoid unit sending you down unclassified roads either by choosing faster route or by pretending to be a bus. A bonus is that Li-ion battery lasts for ages. Speed camera database from pocketworld loads straight in every time using POI loader. Speed limit warnings are good and hard to ignore, with red flashing banner and 'bonging' from unit, which gets more insistent the further over the limit you are.

I have seen it said many times on this forum that vehicle type doesn't affect the route selected, only the arrival time.

Certainly on my wife's i3, even if you say you are a truck, it can still send you down some very narrow tracks, with broken tarmac, potholes and grass growing the middle!

Is the routing algorithm different on the Nuvi compared with the i3 Streetpilot?

Robin
