A simple question... What's the latest downloadable UK map for my TomTom One 1st edition? According to the news item on the front page it's V7.10 but when I bought the latest version last Friday, I got 'UK and IE Plus major roads of WE V675.1409'

Can anyone tell me what the latest version is I should have?

Thanks.

It should be v_7.10, and that is what I'm being offered now if I enter 'TT ONE' and 'UK and Ireland' in the map shop page on the tt website. I get
"Map of Great Britain and the Republic of Ireland v_7.10"
Presume that's the same page you got it from?

And I'm sure it has been out for longer than since last Friday...

I'd get on the phone first thing tomorrow...

Just called TomTom and after a brief conversation and several minutes of being on hold, they agreed to get the latest map to me. I was told I'd get an email with instructions in 'a few days'. Don't know why it takes days to do this but if that's the price to pay, that's fine with me.

I have a TomTom ONE 1st edition, and actually downloaded my first ever map upgrade last Wednesday. I was only offered map 'UK & Ireland' v710, so it's peculiar that you were offered v675.

I think if it was me I would demand v710 immediately, not in a few days. Who the hell do they think they are?

Waiting a couple of days wouldn't have been the end of the world Wink

As it happens, I just got a 2nd email from them telling me how to get the new map (I guess 'in a few days' was a worst case scenario) so after I've backed up, I'll be upgrading - result! Very Happy

All upgraded and working now Cool

7.10 seems to have lost the 'major roads of western europe' element from the previous version but that doesn't bother me.

I have the same TT1 model and I am about to buy the new UK map (is it worth upgrading?)

I am a bit concerned that it won't be quite as simple as just loading the map...............nothing is ever simple. Embarassed

I have TT1 V1 still on V5.42

Map V605

PGPS Speed rated cams.

Voices from Ray's site.

ORIGINAL SD card.

Tried HOME but gave it up ages ago.

If I upgrade map, what do I need to do/change and in what order please?

Difficult to quantify whether it'll be worth it to you or not. I've not noticed any map changes myself but then, I wouldn't necessarily expect to.

The new maps do allow the mapshare feature but I found it slightly disappointing that I couldn't make certain specific changes with that i.e. fix a couple of 'bugs' found in a few roads near me.

I think you will have to use the 'Home' software and upgrade the firmware on your TT1 to upgrade though (I did). The firmware gives your TT1 a new 'look' and a couple of minor extra features. If you think of it as getting a new Sat/Nav for around £25 then it makes it worthwhile to my thinking.

As for the upgrade, yes it didn't go 100% smoothly but it wasn't too bad - personally, I'd recommend it.

Good luck Very Happy

Thanks Andy.....................I was hoping for a bit more of a step by step idiots guide if possible?

What happens with the voice warnings I already have?

Will the original TT1 SD card be big enough for new map?

What problems am I likely to come up against?

Cheers.

There are many ways of going about it, but this is what I'd do...
Keep your original SD card untouched.
Buy a new 1 or 2GB card from Kingston or Sandisk (or any other good make, NOT the cheapest you can find on eBay!) They are not much to buy now.

Copy EVERYTHING from the original card to the new card (either using a card reader or by using the TT itself as the reader. Use Windows Explorer to copy and paste the entire contents.

Now check that the new card works. While you are at it, check the old card still works!

If all OK, put the original card away somewhere safe.

Now you can download your map and install it on the new card. You will need Home v2.1 to do the download. There will be plenty of room for both maps if they are only UK, but for not much more you could get the Western Europe map...
If you go for that option, you will need to delete the folder for the old UK map first (only on your NEW card!)

Hope that is enough detail to get you going (otherwise ask again)...

To be honest, I can't remember the step by step details but, essentially, I installed 'Home' then upgraded the firmware and bought the new map using 'Home'. 'Home' seems to work reasonably well (in my case anyway) and made the process pretty straightforward.

At first, it installed a map that wasn't the most up to date and I needed to call TomTom to fix it. Despite posts I've seen from other users, I have to say they dealt with me quickly and well - I don't have any complaints.

After the map upgrade, you have to move any of your own POI's (e.g. speed cameras) into the new map directory for them to appear. The voice warnings on the PocketGPSWorld no longer work. I didn't look too closely into that and I'd guess it's probably fixable but I just picked a default warning sound for the lot.

I doubt the original memory card will hold the new map. In my case, the first thing I did when I got my TT1 was take the original card out and keep it safe as a backup. I'm now using a 1Gb card and that has plenty of room.

If you backup your memory card (or, preferably, use a larger, spare card) I don't think things can go too badly as you can just whack the old one back in if you need to.

Thanks to you both.

I have downloaded HOME.

Ordered a Sandisk 1gb from Play.com @ £6.49 ( I never go abroad)

I am concerned about the speed cam voice warnings not working. I will be able to get them to work with the new Version/Map won't I ? ? ?
Can I be doing anything to ensure this while I am waiting for the new SD card?

Cheers again, Kev

I'd suggest searching the forum and/or asking the question (about the voice warnings) in a new thread. I didn't get round to it.
