Mike,

Does that mean that they have started shipping them?

I have about 10 case references and lodged 3 letters of complaint - I received a phone call from the head of CS in the UK back in July to advise me that all I had to do was wait as I was on the list.

I can call them to "jog" their memory if these units have started shipping.

I honestly don't know if they have started to ship them, I do know there are some of the newer units in the UK though - I hope that makes some sense - as they had to be tested over here first.

Give them a ring on Monday morning and report back what they say, I am sure there will quite a few others interested in how you get on - Mike

I certainly have not had to resort to using an external aerial with the -013 receiver, it just works where other previous versions have failed quite spectacularly, and believe me I have enough aerials on the car to make trying an external feed most easy - no need with this one though.

As an example last Wednesday I drove from Blackpool to Coningsby in Lincolnshire, I had TMC reception for over 95% of the outward trip. The return trip was 100% solid reception, with previous iterations of the receiver I was lucky to expect 10% coverage on such a trip (which I do quite often) - Mike

I did with the earlier units (we all have a few revisions!) but it made little difference. I'm happy to report that despite earlier misgivings this does appear to be very much better and works 70% of the time, about what we ought to expect bearing in mind the limitations of the UK TMC network.

I "prompted" Tom Tom by updating my long list of queries and responses on the support site. I simply asked if they could tell me when the replacement unit would ship.

I have received a response saying a repair order has been set up and asking me to log into "service and Repair" on the web site to fill in my address details (which they already have) and then to send in my faulty unit for repair.

What I am worried about is that the serial/version/part number of whatever it is they quote as being faulty, they also quote identically as what they intend to send back afterwards. See here:

Product(s) to be send in for repair:
TomTom RDS-TMC Traffic Receiver EU v3.0 (FP) [H] Part No. 9V00.013

Product(s) to be send out after receipt of the product(s) listed above:
TomTom RDS-TMC Traffic Receiver EU v3.0 (FP) [H] Part No. 9V00.013

Mine is part no 4V00.000

They have also asked for the proof of purchase and the date of purchase which, I frankly, I very much doubt I will be able to find now - I bought to the GO710 and the RDS-TMC receiver as a bundle about last October.

Do I send it or do I get on the phone to them (does that cost much?!) or what?? Confused

How are you supposed to send in a v3 receiver for repair when you haven't received one yet?

I wouldn't get to hung up on the version numbers, my colleagues running web-sites on the continent report similar confusion and a raft of different part numbers!

I am seeking clarification this farcical situation but don't expect a reply until tomorrow.

To be truthful, it wasn't so much the version numbers that bothered me as the implication that they intend to "repair" the antenna I have and return the same thing. I don't want to be wasting time on such an exercise when it isn't actually broken - it's just crepe.

I could do with knowing for sure that they are going to send me an up-to-date device which works!

I'm afraid that they may get side tracked onto an unnecessary "repair route" instead of sticking to the "replace route"

I'll await your further advices, Darren, with interest !

All the feedback we have been getting from TomTom has indicated that they will be replacing. They know the earlier units are useless here in the UK and that the latest design is the only solution. I'll update you as/when I get the response from the horses mouth Smile

Ok, for those of us that didn't purchase the initial RDS unit, is it now safe to go an buy the new one? If so, can anyone recommend a supplier?

You can get one half price for £34.99 from Argos.

But I would assume it is old model.

Very Happy I've received an update indicating that my RDS receiver will be replaced early this week.

Confused The returns procedure is such a waste of time, the old units have zero value, probably cost < £5 to manufacture, it's going to cost TomTom more than these units are worth. Also reading the procedure it doesn't look good for customers who have modded their units, as they will be checked before a replacement is sent out.

I've not modded mine, but if I had I'd be arguing to the last that it was only because they originally shiped such a shody product Rolling Eyes
