Every time I connect my 720 to Home (1.6 for OS X) it tells me there are corrections to POI's and I click to install them, it then goes through the downloading phase OK and then who knows as Home give you no feedback on what it is doing... Anyway when I next connect the 720 it asks me if I want to download and install them all again so they are obviously not being installed properly. If there are Map corrections or a QuickFix GPS update then those are not asked for the second time I plug the 720 in so those seem to download and install OK. Any ideas?

I too have seen this issue for myself recently and would be interested in the answer. I've also recently added a new POIn using mapshare which isn't available to see when browsing the map. This hasn't always been the case. Why is this suddenly occurring, any ideas/
TIA,
Pete

I've had this quite a few times just recently. Previous Map Share pois disappearing after an update. The only way I could get them back was to remove the updates using home and then update again.

Its worth checking how many .OV2 files you have in your map directory, as the limit is 100.
The issue of each POI update adding to the number of .OV2 files is growing.

Cheers

I think what's happening is that every time you connect, it downloads the latest POI corrections for all the categories you subscribe to, WHETHER THERE ARE ANY NEW ONES OR NOT.
Those corrections then get saved as CAxxxx.ov2 files, which overwrite themselves each time.
So your map folder gets a load of extra .ov2s (which reduce the space for your own POI files) but it doesn't get any worse as time goes on.

If you aren't interested in corrections for some categories, you can reduce the number downloaded in the preferences on the machine (haven't got it in front of me today, so being vague as to where it is!)

Could be wrong, but these are my best guesses so far!

OK that seems to make sense. Sounds like a HOME bug which needs fixing in that case.

While I have been fiddling around with POI's to try and find what is going on I have noticed a couple of things.

- In Tomtom HOME when I explore what is on the 720 only POI categories I have installed show up.
- Also when I "Manage POI's" on the 720 itself, if I go to "delete POI category", only the ones I have installed are listed.

Given these two fact I'm not sure how i would go about deleting a POI category that is part of the default Tomtom set? Is my set-up behaving differently to other people's?

No, there is nothing you can do yourself to edit or delete the built-in POI categories (except get rid of them all at once). They are all bundled into one file called poi.dat, which you can delete or rename. I did this on my old Go300 and just replaced the categories I really needed (Petrol etc.) with the ones from here.

It's always been like that, but at least now with Mapshare you can add or move existing ones.

I've just checked the number of poi files in my map folder. Its showing 40 ov2's including the ca****.ov2 and pa****.ov2 files, so I'm nowhere near the 100 limit. As Timmys said above I think the problem has something to do with the home software or maybe a corrupt download.

I'm not sure 'slednap' and 'timmys' are reporting the same thing...

'timmys' hasn't said that updates are disappearing, just that a new download happens every time he connects. I think that is "normal" behaviour for Home.

I have deleted the built in poi.dat file and I now have 98 poi`s that I need and that show things in my area and not " nearest doctors 150mls away."

If you delete the POI.dat file then the Map Share POI updates wont be much use to you as they contain updates/ ammendments to the POI files stored within the POI.dat file

I accept your point about the doctors being 150 miles away (in Ireland if you check - but then again that will be a tad difficult now) - the whole point of Map Share is to share information, if you want local Doctors on the device add them in using the device, connect to Home and upload to "share" your information with others - Mike
