i3 keeps locking up - NOW SORTED OUT

i have an i3 which has worked fine for the last year but now it keeps on locking up most times when I turn it on. I can get to the choices page "where to go", "something else" and settings. I can then scroll down to one of the 3 chices, but after I have clicked on the choice and it bleeps, nothing else happens & the wheel or buttons have no effect apart from the bleeps when I press any button or the wheel.
I am using rechargables & have tried a couple of fairly new 2700ma/h fully charged sets. It did work once when I put a new set of ordinary alkaline batteries or sometimes with the car lead. Does anyone have any ides what could be the problem.
I am using the origional 2.7 firmware which has not been changed.

After trying all sorts of things, including hard resets & seeing what the price for an out of warrenty repair would be from garmin (£72) I decided as a last resort to reinstall the firmware (2.7) The i3 is now back to normal and works fine on rechargables or alkaline batteries an excellent result. Must have been corrupted firmware.

How do you do a hard reset please? Mine has gone kaput!

Depress and hold the scroll wheel and the two buttons at the same time until the device askd if you want to erase all date - Mike

Thankyou for that but it is not working for me.

Does it matter which order I press them in, or if it is on battery or mains power?
