Hello there,

I've looked around for the answer on this website and others but couldn't find it. So perhaps someone could help me.

Does the pogodrive accept user defineable POI and can I download the databases from this site onto a pogodrive? If so which format would I need to use?

Thanks in advance

What does it say in the Manual?

There is nothing to indicate one way or the other on their web site, and there isn't any documentation to download from there.

It looks as if you can only download their own database. This costs £50 a year, with the first year free.

Yea they have the manual online as well but there is nothing in it about POI.

That would be a shame as you then couldn't then use your own personal POI's.

Perhaps some of the people who posted on the Origin thread (Nutty Nurse, BBking (I think...) could comment.

For fanaloneman:

I had a PogoDrive for a short while when they first appeared on the market. The Drive used Origins own speedcamera database and did not provide for a third party implementation. It updated through a unique link to, at the time, an unfinished webpage dedicated to the PogoDrive & Alert.

I returned my Drive largely because the navigation side of the unit was extremely buggy (you will find that thread commencing somewhere here on P5). The problem with the Speedcamera side of things was that it didn't allow for mobile sites and redlight camera which somewhat surprised and annoyed me as I couldn't understand Origins refusal to include these. The interface and alerts where otherwise very good.

Westewoo and BBQKing I believe continued to persevere with their Drives, both liking the device, and Westewoo I believe was acting as a test pilot for Origin helping to iron out the bugs. Haven't seen any feedback from him for some months now however, though entirely possible that I have just simply missed it.

Thank you NuttyNurse - I did read that thread and i liked it very much

Perhaps if Westewoo and BBQKing read this they could give more feedback on the unit

As for the database issue, I find it strange as that they don't include mobile sites as this infomation is already out there in the public domain. Couldn't be incorporated as a 'danger spot' or something of the like? or even as a warning initself as I think that the siting in the first place - for cameras at any rate have to be in dangerspots. That would make sense.

Anyway did you find a replacment for your drive? It would be nie to know

Cheers

fM

Hello fanaloneman,

I too would be interested in getting an update from westewoo and BBK.

I think speedcameras, mobile or otherwise, can now be placed anywhere lucratic enough to make money and are no longer restricted to dangerspots.

No. I haven't bought a new unit yet, I am still using my old drivesmart. At one point I was using both PocketGPSWorld and DS databases but this was causing some comflict and I was getting allsorts of false alerts. Currently I have been trying the latest DS database update that suddenly appeared on their old webpage. Around the time they announced their intention to release the "Laser Star" YET AGAIN!! You may have also seen this discussion under the Drivesmart thread. I will however be reinstating the PGPSW as this one is certainly a lot more trustworthy and reliable. The only problem I seem to be having with the DS is that regardless of the setting, it keeps telling me I am going to fast once I reach 70mph on the motorway even if I have it set to 90mph.

A for a replacement. What I would ideally like to see and to buy would be a PGPSW dedicated unit, as the only choice otherwise is to buy a TomTom, Garmin or some such thing and to install the database on to these instead of, or along side an existing database. Otherwise I am considering the Talex as this is about the cheapest stand alone unit to buy, similar in function to my Drivesmart and is rated highly.
