Hi Folks,

I use TomTom Navigator 6 on my Pocket PC but recently lost the bluetooth receiver. I have been scouring eBay for a good deal and it seems the official TomTom receiver might not be the best option (it is quite expensive). I read a good review of the Qstarz Q818 receiver on this website and think I might pick one up.
However, when I was looking at the Qstarz website I saw the Q1000 unit, which is essentially the same as the Q818, but it logs the data so you can then load it into (for example) Google Earth.
I didn't know this was possible and I quite liked the idea so thought about getting the Q1000 instead.

Then I got to thinking, I bet there is a freeware (or at least inexpensive) app for Windows Mobile that could grab the NMEA data from the bluetooth receiver (the Q818), which would mean that there would be no need to buy the data logging (and more expensive) Q1000 unit.

Is there such an application?

the other point is that I would want this hypothetical data logging app to run at the same time as my TomTom navigator software, which I am lead to believe would require the use of port splitting software like GPS Gate or Port Splitter (http://www.gpsmeter.com/).

Am I completely off track (no pun intended) in thinking this should be possible?

Apologies for the rather rambling post...!

Any tips or recommendations gratefully appreciated!

Fransons GPS Gate will datalog as well as splitting the GPS port so multiple applications can use the signal, you might need to use other software on the PC to translate the recorded data into a compatable format such as GPS Babel but it is not rocket science to be honest, it depends on what you want from the overall package and what you intend to do with the log files - Mike

Thanks for that!
Think I will pick up a Q818 and a copy of GPS Gate.

Appreciate your advice,
