|
|
My father owns a TomTom 710 which he uses mainly when caravaning both in the Uk and europe. This year when in France the sat nav took him along roads which were not really suitable for caravans. My Garmin 510 has an option to change it to deal with different types of vehicle for example trucks. Is there a similar feature on the Tom Tom and if so where can he find it. If there isn't can anybody suggest a way of getting round his problem.
Thanks in advance. |

I have had the same problem as I use my TT910 when I tow my caravan, but what I have found best to use is, plan a route using Google earth then view the route first to see if its suitable for a caravan.
Then if it is I then plan the same route in Auto Route then use ITconvert so I can transfer the route to my TT and use it.
The plus side using Auto Route is you can tell the software what roads you dislike & like.
With a lot of sites now having wifi connections its very easy to do from inside your van and plan the next route
Also I choose the limited Speed option on my routes as I take it this is for HGV's, it has worked for me so far.

I think you'll find that any road is unsuitable for a caravan particularly if I am behind it |

found this post interesting as a Caravaner and a TomTom Go (clasic) person.. would dearly love to find the answer..
I do have Autoroute2005 (Not GPS though) on the laptop -- and would be interested to see how to transfer routes from AR to TT??
Also the "Limited speed" option -- how does that work for caravan routing??
Hope you dont mind me asking..

But in either version, you create the route you want using PushPins. In AR, use the Route Planner to pull the desired Route into shape.
Save the File in standard AR .axe format.
Then, using a program called ITNConv, the PushPin data is converted into an Itinerary File that you can copy to the itn Folder on the Device. _________________ Richard

I believe a new feature of Google maps is to work out a route then transfer to your TomTom, could be worth a try. _________________ TomTom Go 950 Live.

Potentially you could set the speed limit option? A friend of mine who's a coach driver does this and I think it then avoids narrow roads etc. I could be wrong, but I think that's the case... |
