This is probably not what you want to hear, but having spoken to Sony AND to Navman, I get the impression that there isn't going to be a release for the Sony. Navman have stopped providing updates for their OWN iCN6xx, so I doubt very much they'll be releasing anything for Sony! Can anyone spell M-U-G-G-E-D?? Mad

I take your point, but what has Navman got to do with it?

Sony rebranded the Navman product, so if Navman don't support it, no matter what, Sony cannot.

- I suspect the crime is still in progress. Discretion being the better part of valore and all that, I would switch to Garmin or TomTom - or you could buy a large tube of KY Gel. Shocked

I know Sony rebranded but I don't see why this has any bearing on Sony obtaining maps from TeleAtlas. The software that runs the Sony machine is not produced by Navman but by Sony themselves.

I'm touring Europe by car in September and should the map update not be out in time Sony have offered me a loan machine with the new maps installed on it. I don't think they would be able to make such an offer if a map update wasn't happening?

From the brief play I had with a Sony unit a couple of years ago, I saw Navman software with a new "skin" on it. The User Interface was exactly the same, the graphics design was new. It even had the some of the same bugs.

best advise to all you Sony owner hanging out for an update - It is very unlikely you will get one.

Robertn is indeed correct. The Sony is a re-engineered iCN650, including hardware and software. The software is a reskinned and in some instances, re-modelled version of the original iCn650 software. Sony would need to contact Navman to have them provide the new software, as Navman would no doubt be in control of the software application, map data and also map security. I very much doubt that Sony will follow this course of action, as it would no doubt cost them a small fortune to pay Navman to develop a once-off update. So in robertn's most sincere voice: Switch sat nav manufacturer, or get out the KY Gel! Shocked
