Whilst out driving yesterday evening my 720 suddenly lost it's speed cam voice warnings. They were still on the unit but the link to the speed cam files had been lost. I've no idea why, there was no sudden loss of power. I dont recall what I was doing with the unit in particular for them to go either. On getting home at the end of the journey I decided to sack the voice warnings, I've deleted them from my unit and replaced them with TTS voices generated by the computer voice.
I'm hoping that sufficient people will report this to tomtom for them to release a software patch soon.

It might have been quicker to have tried a Reset first!

Well 720 arrived yesterday & I spent most of the evening working it out (okay I spent hours messing about).

I had absolutely no issues what so ever.

I placed music & an mp3 audiobook on my sd card & it found it right away & played them with no problems.

I've got to say, it is a lovely piece of kit & late last night I decided to treat it to a Brodit setup in the car as I've heard good things about them in this thread.

I am of course waiting for something to go wrong. It can't be this good out of the box surely?

But have you put the Homer curser (or cursor even) in it yet?

I ran out of time when the clock struck 12 & I thought I'd better go & talk to the wife (oops).

So tonight, the cursor goes on & then 'The World Will Be Mine'! (sorry I havn't got a white cat to stroke) DOH!

my first tomtom had a nice windscreen mount, but the mount for the 720 does look a bit cheap, might go for another mount one that sits in front of the air vent. mind you, the two parts seem to come out at about £40.

I thought that, saying that, the 720 mount though is easier to fit to the windscreen and when fitted there is less vibration of the Go when driving down uneven roads.

My 720 fell off the glass every time after the first day, but maybe I was fitting it wrong?

I have ordered the Brodit mount for the 720 so I can fit it elsewhere.

Update...

I got back on the phone to TomTom...

I said "I'm told I could have emailed this stuff back to you rather than waste two hours searching for a Fax machine that would do international calls"
"Ah yes sir" was the reply, "But I have to send you an email first and then you have to reply to it".
OK I said, but as he was half way through getting my email address, he suddenly said he thought he could do it himself if I would tell him my password for my TomTom account.
OK I said...

During the next 10 minutes he asked me for my "product code" (I gave him my device code as it is a new device I'm trying to register) and he then said that he DID need the Product code.
When I said that the 720 map doesn't HAVE a product code he was baffled.
Then he asked what Plus service I was trying to get, (I'm not) and finally said I'd need a new account with a new email address (I told him I didn't, if I wanted to DELETE the old device code).
Lots more keyboard tappping and music on hold, then he finally said he couldn't do it after all without the proof of purchase and escalating it to second level.
"OK, back to "plan A" and send that email for me to reply to" I said.

"Certainly sir...."

Waiting

and waiting

that was half an hour ago now

still waiting

Evil or Very Mad

What email address did you use Andy.

I emailed them yesterday morning and still havn't has a reply

Andy

Got email from TT tonight and they have changed my device code and registered my unit having deleted the old one. I did this all on email

regards

Kev

Mine sticks like sh!t to a blanket but I will get a Brodit active mount if one makes an appearance.

Sorry if I’m missing something here but would it not just be easier to register the 720 under a different email account.

Using Windows Explorer, set to show all files and extensions.
Create a directory on your PC (e.g. 720Backup2007-08-09).
Get into the GO and "Edit, ... Select, Select all", then "Edit, Copy"
Go to the new folder on the PC and "Edit, Paste".

You'll find the 720 has an internal hard disk (or somesuch magic). The SD card slot contains a blank (bit of plastic).

It is possible to do a backup using Tom Tom Home, BUT do one with Windows Explorer FIRST - Home has an occasional unfortunate tendency to sometimes not backup everything and you'd hate to need something that Home didn't bother with!!
