All,

I hope this will be good news for some of you. I've finally found time to get the release of a new GPSAssist version ready (other software and hardware products needed my attention).

The new version will target both PPC 2002 and PPC 2003 and is a full rewrite of the original GPSAssist version 1.

Note that will be a FREE upgrade for all exisiting GPSAssist users.

As with GPSAssist version 1 this new version's feature list will be driven by the users of GPSAssist. A lot of things has been added to TTN since the initial release of TTN3 so the features list will look a bit different.

I would expect the first release to be available to a beta audience this week or next week.

Please accept my appologies as I was not giving GPSAssist the attention it needed in the past.

Thanks,
Jo

Hi Jo,

That’s not just good news, that’s excellent news! Thumbs Up

Although I’m not currently a user of GPSAssist, I look forward to the next release of GPSAssist, as a short while ago it was considered THE definitive add-on for TTNav.

Would you care to whet our appetites and let us know some of the new features of GPSAssist that you’re planning? Laughing

As TTNav3 will be released in the next week or so (and the upgrade a few weeks after that) will you be designing GPSAssist for use with both TTNav2.xx and TTNav3.xx?

Regards,

Hi,

Recently I bought a new iPaq thus needed to install GPSAssist onto the
new machine. At first I was afraid not being able to do so since a
code is required, reading many reviews that Jo has thrown in the towel
didn't make me happy at all.

Suprisingly and during the weekend I received a new code. You bet I
was happy. Now I got the news the creators of GPSAssist are even
considering making a newer version sounds like a dream. Looking forward to it ...

Okay guys go for it ..

Robert,

the feature list of the new GPSAssist will be driven by user input. Dave (pocketgps) has already given several hints of what should or should not be in the new version. Of course the main features in GPSAssist v1 will also be there (except redundant ones which are in TTN2 or TTN3).

Thanks,
Jo.

We have also offered Jo a beta forum, I'll let Jo decide what he wants to do and who he wants to have access to the forum and we can start setting this up.

We're going to try and work with Jo to make as much of GPSAssist tailored towards PocketGPSWorld.com in terms of speed cameras and POI's as possible Thumbs Up

I have been an ardent user of GPS Assist since the early days and recommended it to friends early on. However, whilst I have some sympathy for Jo on the job front I - like many others here were very disappointed that he subsequently ignored everyone who had paid good money for the product.
I am now even more annoyed. I changed IPAQs and needed a key and emailed Jo on 12th March - to be honest not expecting a reply. I was right! Frustrated at having no warning (not that I speed of course!) I purchased POI Warner just last week!!!!!
Jo, I am delighted that you are back, I accept your apology but you will have to go a long way to assure all of the disillusioned customers that you have neglected for too long. How do we know it won't happen again??/
Perhaps I'll get a reply from"autoreplying" now!!!
p.s. I think GPS Assist is a superior product to POI Warner!!! 8O

vxer,

I understand your feeling. About the replacement unlock codes. Usually I send a replacement within one day. So most probably your email got lost somewhere (spam filter or whatever other reason).

Anyway, just send an new email to registration@auto... and I'll get a new code to you.

Let's get things rolling ...

Thanks,
Jo.

Jo, my PC is down with hard disk problems, saw your email come in before the disk started to die, I've sorted out the permissions in the forum for you now, PM me if you still can't post. I'll be back up with email in about 24 hours once I've managed to reinstate my 14gigs worth of PST's.

Jo,

Do you have any news, for those of us not involved with the beta testing, of your new version of GPSAssist?

I'll probably end up buying a copy of GPSAssist, assuming that I perceive the price to be right for the functionality offered. If I bought now, would I still be eligible for a free upgrade to version 2.0? Smile

If GPSAssist replaces CheckPOInt 2.02 as the preferred POI detector for PocketGPS World, will a cut-down version be offered for free?

The current price of GPSAssist 1.3.3 is €27.00. Will GPSAssist 2.0 be the same price?

Finally, the GPSAssist Forum that your website points to, no longer exists within the PocketGPS World forum. Can this be revived at some time? Thumbs Up

Regards,

I dlownloaded the latest version yeaterday and installed on my 5550 running ttn3. GPSAssist starts up fine but when I select POIAssist, I get the following error:
Unexpected error: System.Runtime.InteropServices.ExternalException:NoTable

This seemed to happen after once running POIAssist while not being able to get online (GPRS connection failed) when it tried to get site indexes.
Problem is fixed by recreating databses.

If you only want a basic POI detector then no. But if you want the next step on, then GPSAssist is for you.

Only you can really answer that question, so why don't you download the trial copy and give it a go? Thumbs Up

I have just downloaded the latest version of GPSAssist to check it out since it seems to be highly regarded by some people here. Just wondering if some sort of user manual is to be found somewhere?

Cheers

Tom

Jo has written a manual and it has been sent to the beta testers for reading. I'm sure he will release it very, very soon.
