.. what is in the directory built into your unit called \Garmin\gpx. On my old 660 there was a single file, on the 660FM it looks corrupt. Here is what I see

Your unit is corrupt mate. Mine was exactly the same as soon as I bought it. I found I couldn't delete any of the files / folders either as they had invalid characters in them. Easiest way to fix is to copy every proper file and folder off the unit onto your hard drive, format your Garmin and then copy all the files and folders back.

Is there a procedure for formatting the 660FM documented anywhere

Alternatively, you can try running a "Check for Errors" on the drive in Windows, although I would recommend a full backup beforehand. This should fix the corruption problem, which, given it was reported to Garmin months ago, I'm surprised is still there...

I bought mine yesterday directly from Garmin UK (my wife used to work there) and it definitely still had the corruption. A CHKDSK from Windows has indeed removed the corrupted directory.

The unit still appears to be working properly so I'm hoping the directory was not important.

Anyone know if I should copy the directory and contents over from my 660 backup ?

No, although one of the directories is corrupt, there is only 1 valid file in that directory normally, and it is fine, despite the corruption surrounding it. You should still have the file (if I remember correctly it's the file containing your favourites - so if they are still there, there should be no need to copy back anything from the backup).

Yes - it's your favourites file! I would guess that it does not matter but you may have lost the position of Garmin Taiwan!

I tried to copy the contents of my file over but the forum complained that I was using html tags! Embarassed

Not only that but the Garmin UK HQ has moved too !! The forum complaining about HTML tags was the reason why I posted my original problem as a JPG image of a screen capture Idea

If you use the CHKDSK method to fix the corruption, you should not lose this file though.
