I have a HTC Athena which I use in the car with TomTom 6 navigator, although the Athena has a built in GPS I would like to use it with the Holux in order to extend the battery life. I can get the Athena to recognise the Holux and display a position with its own utility program, but seem unable to get the TomTom software to recognise it. I have disabled the internal GPS and gone into the GPS configure option in TomTom and selected Bluetooth receiver and the correct seria port but no joy, any ideas.

Follow the set-up guide Here which details BT GPS configuration on a WM2005 device (the actual port on the Athena will differ from the guide though as I wrote it using a Universal), to be honest I would use the onboard GPS rather a BT unit, just get a decent car charger cable for the device (The one for the TomTom One XL is very good, lessor chargers allow the Athena to drain the battery faster than you can charge it!) - Mike

Mike,

Thanks for the reply the charger not keeping up with the battery drain was the reason for trying the bluetooth receiver, I will try to get a better charger which will solve the problem, thanks again

The Athena is a hungry beast to power, the charger I mentioned is rated at 2 amps IIRC, and I find in use with the GPS running and the BT enabled, screen on full etc it is still capable of topping up the battery, some of the other chargers I have tried with the Athena (Ameo in my case) simply drain the battery over a long trip - Mike

Mike,

I think also part of my problem could be that where I site the athena in my Vectra it just sits nicely on top of the exiting dashboard display and I think the heat from the display makes the Athena warmer. If I am not mistaken there is a cut out that stops the battery charging if it gets too hot so this may be causing problems as well.
