TomTom 5 advanced route planning.

If anyone is interested I can provide instructions to reverse this process.
i.e. convert your TomTom Custom POI's into pushpins on Autoroute.
You will need poiedit and Microsoft Autoroute.
May be useful if you have created your own custom poi group and wish to display them on a larger screen on your computer.

The latest version of Autoroute is Autoroute 2006 and can be brought from Amazon for about £40.00. However I have Autoroute 2005 and that will obviously cost you less. The reason I have Autoroute is because of the maps. The whole family use the printed maps when ever they visit cities ect. I did put pocket Streets on my PDA but as I already had TT5 installed Pocket Streets seemed a bit pointless. By the way, providing you have a good GPS receiver TT5 is brilliant when you are walking round big cities like London. If you take the walking option Tomtom guides you down small alleys across parks to your chosen destination and you know exactly where you are at any given time. Just a few years ago only people like James Bond owned such equipment.

i'm useing tt navigator 5 and auto route 2006, i've planned a route in auto route and have converted it to an itn file and copied it into my itn folder but tomtom can't find it - any suggestions? does this work with tt navigator 5?

just out of interest i have a tempory file in my itn folder with the extension iti, does this mean the converted files with file extension itn will not work in tt navigator 5?

I've never had any problems converting a AXE File to a ITN File with ITNConv.

Can you go through the steps that you made, to see if anything was missed.

With luck we'll have you up and running in no time.;)

its me jus been a dummie brummie, once i had converted the file in itncon i was closing the window by pressing the x instead of clicking on the exit button, thats the only thing i have tried different and now its working fine.
just been out road testing an itn i prepared earlier :D and it works superb, great for a multi drop driver like me, i can now prepare my route of a night and avoid some of tom tom routing glitches and go the way i want

Hi,
please be aware of a sideeffect of using Autoroute as planning device:
If you for instance have located a hotel using the Autoroute "Find" function for which you have given streetname and number, you might end up with an incorrect Lat/Long. That is, Autoroute is by far less accurate in finding the exact position given the house number of a street than TomTom.

You can of course allways check the location with TomToms find function or have the full adress in a hardcopy as backup .........

Still, the Autoroute is nice to have when planning for trip as it does give you an excellent overview given larger screen for a PC

Where is the ITN folder supposed to be located?
I cannot find it on the device or storage card.

It wasn't there but I've now made a directory and put my itineraries in it and everything is OK.

I haven't tested it yet but when I load an Autoroute designed itinerary, why does TT6 still ask me whether I want fastest, shortest etc.?

Surely that was all sorted when I plotted the route in AR.

Hi Richard .
I don't have a laptop to take on holiday with me and I want to plan the next days route . I have tt6 on my pda but I can only add one waypoint to influence the route . I can use the itinerary planning but I can't check the detail or use demo .
If I have iGo software I can look at the map and select pushpins to use the roads that I prefer . These points are in listed in a history page and can be used to generate a route . The history pins also show the coordinates of the point , the address and the postcode . The route can be seen in detail or flown over at high speed .
How can the pins be loaded in the correct format into TomToms itn folder ?
I would like to try this because under real conditions in the car , the TomTom route display is so much better than the iGO , the actual driving road is much wider and clearer , the zoom in to round-abouts shows a big green arrow ,.....and I need all the help I can get.
