Found it and all is back as it should be.

I tried what I should have done in the first place, I temporarily turned OFF my virus protection. Everything worked, so that narrowed the problem down to "Zone Alarm".

To cut a long story short, I found the privacy settings were wrong - I set them back to the default settings and the job was done.
