The latest info:

Dear Customer,

Unfortunately, this item has been delayed by another week. Because of
the promotional sales price demand has out-stripped supply and we are
waiting on fresh stock to arrive at the lower price. While we try to
keep the information on our web site fully up to date with the status
of each product, inevitably in some cases we are not informed that a
particular item is delayed until after we have orders for it.

We apologise for any inconvenience.

Regards

Rolling Eyes

A better buy than a tomtom ONE ......

Hmm! But is it, when push comes to shove?

I have a TomTom One v2 (£140 from Currys) plus an HP iPAQ 6910 (about £350 supplied with my job) running TomTom 6 & iGo MyWay 2006 Plus.

Without question the BEST SatNav tool is my dedicated TomTom One v2 .. it locks onto satellites much quicker than the PPC device & because it comes with a windcsreen mount, it doesnt keep falling off the passengers seat when I go around corners!

OK my ipAQ runs WM5 and is more versatile than my TomTom One, but for pure GPS / Satnav use (& that is what this forum is about isnt it?), the TomTom One v2 blows the "iPaq GPS solution" into a cocked hat .. its a no brainer. (And I am comparing a PPC device that cost £200 more than my TomTom!)

So I would say .. NO .. its not a better buy than a TomTom One v2 from Currys, its just another option of choice!

I am sure many will dissagree Smile

This is the info I get from Currys on the Tomtom One V2:

web exclusive £159.94
instore price £179.99

The £140 may have been a short lived offer?

Edit

Yet more info from the Expansys saga:

Hi there

Many thanks for your order , please be advised that we are still awaiting stock on the 5720 and have no confirmed date from our suppliers at this stage when they are due.
Rest assured however , we are doing our upmost best to get stock in asap and you shouldnt be waiting too much longer .
I do appreciate your patience on the matter.

Now gone up to 8 days on the order tracking page 8O

Does the mount come with alternative brackets instead of the window mount, or are they optional extras?

It comes with a "finger" mount for the grill.
The mount also comes in sections so that you can use as much or as little as you need.

Finally I found that the sections fit into the standard TomTom mount I used to use on my old Ipaq 3950.

Which was nice.

Found this alternative mount for the Ipaq rx5000 series:

£24.99 inc vat (+ price of clip for your car) from:

http://www.dsldevelopments.com/

Search under PDA Holder and select HP.
Under Select PDA Model, select Ipaq rx5000

Looks a lot better than the supplied offering, sorry about the picture, best I could find.

I really would take a look at the supplied mount options before deciding to purchase another mount.

I made it to this forum from looking at the one related to the Aytobe being sold at Maplins which runs the Smart2go application.

I've just got my rx5720 and am very pleased with it but as a point of interest Smart2go who are now owned by Nokia actualy offer a download for Windows Mobile 5 devices.
I thought I would try it against the default TomTom on my device but so far have been able to load it ok and allow it to access the web via Bluetooth on my phone but can't get it to display the Map (which it is supposed to have just downloaded).
I know you can use a Map downloader to do this (they are all free) via your PC but I think you have to use Smart2go on your device first time via the web?

It's not that important as I am only having a play (I intend to use TomTom as that's what I'm used to) but just wondered if anyone had managed to get Smart2go working on WM5??
Cheers

The latest from Expansys:

1) We do not have a delivery date from our supplier.
2) We do not have a date for when you will recieve it.

Waited 22 days, can't see any point in waiting anymore, Tomtom 9 will be out before these arrive Rolling Eyes

Thanks for that, makes me feel better about getting mine elsewhere (if a little more expensive)
I know it doesn't help you though!
I got fed up after 2 weeks but have now had mine since last Friday and am very happy with it.
I also got smart2go working ok with all UK maps to compare with TomTom and it's working fine.

Give up on Expansys I think they've dropped a clanger and haven't got the guts to tell everyone.

Cheers

I think expansys are going to do themselves out of business. I've just got one brand new off of the 'bay for £140 delivered from this seller: serac_solutions. It should arrive Friday. :-D

An e-mail from them would be nice admitting they are having "difficulties".
Instead, when you go to your order, it now says:

Remaining to be shipped:
Item Qty 1
Ordered Qty 1
Remaining Status
HP iPAQ rx5720 Travel Companion Estimated 31 Days
Strange how other companies either have stock or have no difficulty in obtaining fresh supplies Rolling Eyes

They're starting to get stroppy now! I asked why they couldn't get hold of them- here is the reply:

" I am afraid there appears to be a shortage of these units available at present, as you have noted other suppliers may be able to source limited quantities of the device but as far as I am aware none have been able to offer the same price we have. If the delay is not suitable then you are free to cancel or amend your order at any time "

Bearing in mind that I've just got one at £6 more inc postge than the expansys price, I think they need to wind it in a bit Exclamation
