The database is already good value for money.

I understand all about Murphy's Law/ Sod's law but fail to see how 'bad luck' or 'chance' would apply in this instance.
IF as I said previously any future database was released without the mobile's then it stands to reason that PGPSW could address that by making it cheaper because you will be purchasing a smaller database thereby eradicating any chance of Murphy's Law.
Personally I have changed my mind on the database and would rather have it regardless as lot's of vans will in all likeliness sometimes haunt their regular spots.
Any knowledge of their locations will do me but if it does go I'll be damned if I'll pay the same price for less.

Whether you maintain your membership or let it slide has to be a personal decision that only you can make.

You can't be sure that TomTom, NavMan or ANOther will reduce the price of their updates.

Do you do the same amount of bartering when you go to the supermarket, have a meal or go out for a meal?

There's no such thing as a free lunch as they say

There's just no pleasing some people.

There'll still be far more accuracy and more frequent updates than any other database, most of which cost double the price and you don't get the backup and the add-ons you get here.

Do you honestly feel that £2 a month is too much to pay if it could prevent 3 points and a £60 fine?

Mike

Thank You!

Can't be sure they won't either but I think you are missing the point on that one so I will reiterate!
Why would I pay the same for a database that is a third smaller when I know the production costs must have decreased?

Look I set up a business with £120 that now turns over just under £1,500,000 per year which consists of a lot of bartering and I still look for the two for one deals, not because I'm tight fisted but simply because I look for the best deal and I fail to see how a smaller database that is produced for a tenth of the retail can possibly be a good deal if sold at the same price.
You find out the production cost of that database and find out the overall income it produces then deduct the production from the income & exclude taxes, you'll be surprised.

So they say but there is such a thing as being 'royally shafted' see any celebrity chef's restaurant.

No, that's why I subscribe but my point YET AGAIN is if there is less of it why shouldn't it be cheaper?

I think members can decide for themselves thank you very much and you will find when we all agree to disagree we will revert back to the subject.
I don't think a minor digression is life threatening so I suggest if you are unhappy in any way go to another thread.

awake: considering Mike Alder is a moderator and I am a member of 'the team' i think you would be wise to take note of his/our suggestions.

you can hardly say that 5 pages of slanging matches that have nothing to do with the initial post/news item is a 'minor' digression...

Moderator, member of 'TheTeam' or even Captain Grant Cambell of the SAS or not if I disagree with them then I have a perfect right to say so, this after all, is a forum is it not?
Do not allow ego's to enter please.

Granted it has appeared to 'go on' a bit but a 'slanging match is a bit strong.
I also admit to being somewhat reluctant to back away but if you believe in something ..........

Rubbish, they're cheap and profitable, that's why they use them.

Cameras see all transgressions as black and white. It is this that annoys the average driver more than anything. No mitigating factors are taken into account, time of day, amount of traffic, weather etc.

Sorry to be so tardy in replying.
You're right, speed cameras are not cheap (but they are very very profitable).

However, so far, no one's come up with a better way of enforcing the law...

...because it's the law that says there are no mitigating factors.
Not the cameras.

Speeding offences are strict liability offences,
where there is no defence possible.
Other than proving it wasn't you that did it.
Same as driving over the limit for alcohol in the blood.

It's possible to use mitigating factors to try and reduce the sentence,
but there isn't any mitigating factor available as a defence.

Change the law so that the offence is not strict liability
and the offence is something like "innappropriate speed",
and speed cameras would indeed be useless.

As it stands, they're perfectly suited for purpose.

Ego's will not enter into any rational discussion, however this has gone too far. It's not too easy to split/ delete posts when mobile but unless this thread returns to the issue it is meant to be discussing then I see little else - we do allow reasonable levels of discussion without intrusion, but where forum rules are blatently disregarded we have no option.

Consider this one a formal Yellow card, get it back on track or the off topic "discussions" will be moved, I also suggest that some of you actually read the forum rules BEFORE carrying on. Censorship - possibly, but attacks on individuals are way out of line and are NOT permitted - Mike

PS the post preceeding this one is more akin to what should be posted as it is relevant to the original post

I'm still reading this lot!!! Unlike a certain person I know who asked what it's all about, I suddenly discovered the thread had gone inter global in size, so for once, I decided to read it all before I drop a couple of my well considered and tastefully delivered comments. I've been at it for most of the afternoon and as you can see, I'm now close to the end.

I suggest that it may be a good idea to delete this whole thread.

It went off topic after a couple of posts and despite requests from members (me) and the team to get things back on track, things took a turn for the worse.

Not only have there been personal comments made to/against members but the team have also been 'attacked'.

At least when the 'free subscription' thread went AWOL, it was all pretty much lighthearted and taken in good humour - but this has been personal and aggressive.

Personally, I don't mind taking criticism from somebody who has a clue about me or what I've said but some of the comments on here (not necessarily aimed at me) have been totally out of order.
