Hi all. I am new to POIs but I think I have got the idea - they are basically captures of Lat/Long with a description and an icon. My question is how to obtain the Lat/Longs without having to physically be there and get these into an ov2 file. BTW I am the owner of a new TT ONE v2 (Europe).

I work for a company that has kit in electricity substations and the like and I believe it would be helpful for our staff to get these pinpointed on their tomtoms - I understand that ov2 files are transferrable between different versions of TT as long as they are in the map folder?

A lot of our kit I can see on google earth - but I don't know how to capture the lat/long from this. Is there a better mapping site to use (free)? Should I put them into a .csv file (what order? lat, long, name?) and use a tool to convert this to an ov2?

Finally, what is the restriction on the number of pairs (ov2 & bmp) I can have on the TT ONE v2? I read somewhere it was 40 pairs but there seem to be 60+ pairs already installed on the device out of the box?

The goal is to have an ov2 file for "Kit A" one for "Kit B" etc. or to be able to email an ov2 to an engineer so he can copy to his device and go straight to the kit.

Thanks for any help in advance.

Sorry I just found the answer to the number of pairs limit! Smile I'll look for the other answers too, but any help is still greatly appreciated.

Hi J_i_m_s_t_e_r,

If you use a Windows PC then POIEdit is a good tool for editing and creating POIs.

Have a look at this topic as well.

Regards,

http://www.autopoilot.co.uk/ does the job perfectly of getting the lat/longs from the map. Many thanks.

Yes, very odd considering it uses Google Maps.
If I put my home postcode into Google Maps, the result is spot on (even though postcodes can cover quite a wide area sometimes).
If I put it into Autopilot, the result is shown on what looks like the same Google map, but is just over a mile wrong.

I noticed my home postcode was 500m out. I re-centred the map and I'll try it later to confirm if the lat/long off the map matches exactly.

How about using the map on the POI submission page?
That gives precise Lat/Long for any point on a Google Map, and we know that it matches the results on a TomTom pretty well.
