Hi there,

I don't know if this is the correct place to post for this query.
If it's not could someone please refer me to the right place, thanks!

I've recently upgraded my phone to an SPV M700. I am aware it has GPS capabilities and would like to purchase some software for it.

I am looking for what you guys consider to be the best general purpose software that will be compatible with my phone. And (not necessarily the same) software I can take over the Welsh and Scottish hills/mountains with me walking. The walking software will have to have OS grid information i.e. grids as I use OS maps to navigate. Any software with contour lines too would be awesome but I’m not sure whether they exist.

Any ideas/suggestions would be much appreciated.

Regards,
Ljkenny

As it's a WM5 device have a look at OziExplorerCE www.oziexplorer.com. This will enable you to use scanned maps to plot your position. It needs the PC version as well to allow you to do scanning. (Don't forget it is illegal to scan OS maps EVEN if you have bought them - you need a licence to copy them from OS! Rolling Eyes )

There will almost certainly be some software out there just to display your OS grid position. A Google search revealed http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-geoscout-0-97.html which may do what you want.

Have a look at Memory Map which uses OS maps at either 50k or 25k for walking, it works on the PC and PDA (MS Smart Phones are also supported). It will display present position on the device with a full moving map display, other parameters such as track and speed are recorded, even heart rate with a suitable HR monitor.

If you just need OSGB and other non mapping related info look for tchart's GPS Speed Sentry, you can then get speed camera warnings in the car when the new version is released, as well as OSGB info - Mike
