I have upgraded the OS on my HX4700 to WM5 and installed TTN5 5.100 successfully. However it seems a little slower than Win CE 2003, is there anything I can do to speed it up? |

Put it back to WM2003SE, the WM2005 loaded to a device that was never designed to run the OS is not a good idea, I have tried WM2005 on my 4700 and it slowed down - turnng a decent device into a real slow coach, probably not what you want to hear - but this is my main advice, the remainder are just a few ideas to help you out.
There have been updates for the WM2005 and some people have experianced a speed up - but if I want to use WM2005 (or 2006) I will get the hardware that supports it from day one.
As you are using TTN5 you should make sue that all the POI installed are disabled (change preferences/ enable_disable POI) - de-select the whole lot and use "Warn When Near POI" instead this is less intensive on the processor - Mike |

I fully agree. My WM2005 XDA is not fast, even when using pocket hackmaster to speed it up. Forget WM2005 unless the device comes shipped as new with it... _________________ XDA Orbit (the best so far)

I have now updated the rom to 2.01.05 which is later than that supplied with the WM5 upgrade and the speed is discernably better. I think it is still slightly slower than WM2003 but the difference is not annoying me so much.
For the moment I am going to stay with WM5 for two reasons:
a) The non volatile memory
b) Slightly better management utilities
I might try pocket hackmaster, is there a downside to this?
Thanks guys. |

But the 4700 has memory that doesn't get wiped out in the event of a reset even when running 2003SE, so long as you have a decent back-up program installed (Sprite Back-up is supplied as standard with the device - and is considered the best IMHO) you can hard reset the device and be up and running within 2 or 3 minutes.
Next you will be wanting to load WM6 Crossbow on the unit, although I doubt that will be made available for the 4700, shame though as it really does speed up the XDA-Exec - I appreciate I said earlier not to try new software on devices not designed for the new OS - but in this case it really did/ does improve the unit, the 4700 on the otherhand does not respond to the newer ROM to be of benefit IMHO - Mike |

UPDATE
TTN5.10 is crashing when I "browse map" so it looks like I will have to go back to WM2003 after all.
Why did HP release WM5 for this pda then? |
