It's appears to be happening all too often with the 168 but remember it came with a 2 year guarantee. A mate of mine, and several others in these forums, had the same problem. Contact Mitac and they'll send a 'jiffy bag' or similar for you to return it for repair. I believe the turn-around time is less than a week.

It appears they put a new board in so you'll have a different device code and have to re-activate.

problem is I bought it second hand. Have opened the case and the inner part of the connector has broken away. Could re-solder the inner part and then use epoxy to make it solid but it would be nice to get a new replacement connector if possible.

Thanks for your help. Tried them but he will only sell 30 of them, not good business sense. Will keep trolling the internet and see if I can strike lucky.

I do not think you can possibly change the connector yourself.
If you have to and get stuck with finding one. We might be able to help.

Have desoldered the connector and cleaned up the contacts on the board with de-solder ribbon. The connector breaks because the centre tongue is not crimped very well to the outer shield. If you remove the outer shield and re-assemble the connector and crimp the tongue with some long nose pliers it is more secure and should last considerably longer. Will probably add a little adhesive to strengthen the connector. seems to me that this is a problem with mio's connector supplier. No wonder they are replacing them under warranty if they are still in the guarentee period. thanks for the offer but fingers crossed it will be ok. If I can get hold of a camera I will post some photo's.

I too am looking to source the Mio 168 USB/Charger sync connector.

Does anyone know of a source within the UK and have any experiences of fixing it themselves.

Any help / advice greatly appreciated.

many thanks

Max
