I am a total beginner and would welcome any help

Any sounds or verbal messages that i set on my ipaq 2190 become deleted once i exit tmtom. For me to use audible warnings of speed cameras etc i need to set them up each time i energise tomtom. alos occaisonally i loose my home location favourites and recient destinations. Sad

Cheers
Ian

with the ipaq connected to the pc use the explore device function to go to the sd card and then to the map folder look for a .cfg file and check wether or not its set to read only.

where are you putting the sound files that tt uses

i have found a file with "mapsettings.cfg" on it. when i explore this file it opens with the read only box ticked. what should it be - ticked or not ticked - if not ticked how do i change it?

also the ogg files ere installed into the map folders - they do work ok untill i close tomtom the the sound warning tick boxes on the configure poi's become unticked when i open tomtom

thanks in anticipation

Ian

That's the one! Smile

To change it, find it with Windows Explorer (like you must have already), then right-click and select "Properties", then click on the "read only" tick so it goes away, then click "OK" or "Apply" at the bottom (both will do the same job, but "Apply" doesn't shut the window).

Thank you to the brilliant people who helped me. things now seem ok.
One thing - if anyone else is having this problem, note- i couldn't carry out this task through tomtom activesync on explore as the choices were "greyed out" but did manage via card reader and windows explorer.

Thanks again

Ian
