Hi alan195,

Always pleased to hear from former DS forum members.

Thanks for your experience with TT one. Must admit I hadn't picked up on this feature on TT. I suppose it may then be a feature across the range. Can any one confirm this. Does any one know whether this is a feature on the Nuvi range also. Thanks also for feedback on camera database. 8)

Thanks Nuttunurse, thats a good site, I presume that UK spec's are the same as USA, nice pictures.

You must spend a lot of time surfing - wish I was a nurse. Wink 8)

Hi GJF,
Yes I thought it had some good reviews and images to boot, even is some are now dated.

I do a lot of night shifts that tend to keep you awake during the day. Also, as I'm on my own between 9pm & 7am listening to the residents snore I spend part of my night trying to keep my brain active.. Personally I would rather be doing your job, what ever it is, or any one elses come to that. But glad my time is not entirely wasted and something useful is coming out of it. 8)

It's certainly on TT6 Navigator for PDAs.

It's NOT available on nuvis as far as I am aware.

The road speed is built into the map info supplied by TomTom. Unfortunately it's not 100% correct here in UK.

Hi philpugh

Thanks for your feedback. I do have a ipaq 2210 and did consider once buying a GPS receiver and some form of map software for it but never did get around to doing so whilst on the DS forum. I take it that TT6 Navigator is the current state of the art mapping for PDA's If you or any one else could recommend a good quality GPS CF adaptor and cradle I might use this combination as an intermediary system with the pocketgps database installed until I fully make up my mind about a satnav system.

If I do go this way, I would like to also use the pda in conjunction with mapping software suitable for hiking say along the Cotwold Way, the Peaks, Brecon etc. Is there anything you or anyone else could recommend.

Thanks again. 8)

TomTom 6 is the current release.

I would recommend a BT GPS unit for your use. I use one (a TomTom GPS II) with my AXIM - which has SD and CF slots like the 2210.

This allows me to have TT6 maps on one card and some topo maps on the other. Whilst walking a SiRFIII based BT GPS can be placed in you shirt pocket or (as I do) in the top section of a rucsack.

For walking I use Anquet (I have all GB at 50K:1 on DVD) but I have started getting 1:25k on MemoryMap - both are nice products but I think MemoryMap just wins out on ease of use.

Just got my syrius, great bit of kit EXCEPT the mobile data base is not finnished and will not be finnished for 5-7month?? They have to see the site "live". What is the chances of that. I'm returning my unit as it is no better than the Origin B2 and garmin 360 units that i run. lets hope they get up to speed quick.

Hello Accordian,

You may have missed out on the long ensuring issues that have been plaguing DS, in particular the issue with the DEF2 and EMI. Since last September they have pretty well ignore their forum members and customers and at the beginning of February they have closed their forum also, very abruptly, without warning. I would advise therefore to be cautious at the very least in considering purchasing any of their products at this time.. From a one time supporter of DS 8)

Hello

Another disappointed DS user here - I was Chavly40 on the DS forum before the "plug got pulled". Also, a rather annoyed Def2 user that suffered horrendous EMI issues that never got resolved.

Anyway, I too am looking for a replacement for the DS unit and TomTom GO 300 and again weighing up the alternatives! Did originally look at the RA 7000, until I saw one in operation at my local Halfords - the Satnav part was user unfriendly. So have now started to "eye up" the Snooper Syrius. Would the Garmin Nuvi 660 be a better bet over the Syrius? At least whilst looking at the demo's of the Syrius on YouTube, entering journey details was as easy as TT. The RA was a nightmare in that respect.

Any further comments on either system would be helpful

Thanks

Hi BBQKing, I remember you as Chavly40 Welcome

I can remember your Def2 problems and the EMI, I had the same problem in the Pulsemaster, at the time there was a 3-way split in the cable giving me aggro, after i cut it out and soldered all the cables it hasn't played up once - wonder if the Def2 also had a cable splitter?

After a lot or research and chats with others on this forum i bought the Nuvi660, it's everything as good as reported, the bluetooth works first time, clarity is excellent at day, night, or in sun, speed camera plus safety vans are better than DS, and size wise fits into my pocket easily - a lovely bit of kit.

Hope you stay on the forum, sure the others will be talking soon.
