Which Tom Tom update version should I use?

I have a Tom Tom One which i bought a year ago and i have had no problems at all. I have recently been told I should realy upgrade the software version which is 5.410 V1.21 so as to get updated maps etc and to inprove some of the functions.
In the past I have read a few posts where people have had problems after installing certain versions, so could someone please advise me what version to use and from where and how.
