I bought a 910, even though I already had TT on a PDA, and I bought it for 4 reasons -

1. One box plug and play solution
2. Traffic
3. Handsfree phone
4. Ability to play MP3 files

My verdict -

1. Yes - excellent for the basic navigation function, and it has additional functionality over the PDA software e.g. text to speech of road numbers which I rather like.

2. Traffic - basically rubbish, as discussed elsewhere on this forum.

3. Handsfree - unusable

4. I only listen to downloaded radio programs or podcasts. Although it works, the navigation facilities are very crude and I have gone back to playing these on my DAB car radio which has an SD card slot. Also, even to make it semi usable I have been splitting my MP3 audio files into lots of little pieces with MP3DirectCut before putting them on the 910.

Still glad I bought it for it's primary function but all the extras have proved to be not good enough to be usable.

Tony

I'm really surprised that the hands free is "rubbish"; I was bought a TT710 for Chrimble and although it wouldn't recognise my phone at first (T-Mobile VARIO II) after a software update on Boxing Day it did.

The hands free worked so well I flogged my dodgy bluetooth earpiece on eBay Smile

I tried mounting the supplied external microphone on my steering wheel and my callers were complaining I was much harder to hear than with my Jabra headset.

If you connect the 910 to the car stereo the output is more than adequate, you will never get true audiophile performance in a car anyway! - The sound quality is more than adequate - Mike

I wonder if you just have a 'Friday afternoon' Mike - or even a dodgy connection. I've heard of the 910 not charging in the car properly for some people because of a poor connection.

Jon, not a "bad afternoon" - its been a bad day since starting this morning!
I was replying to the previous post, which for some reason was referring to mp3 playback quality, as for poor mount connectivity I have only once or twice experienced this since last April – Mike

Oops. No, I meant his microphone was a Friday afternoon one - you know, it's Friday, poorly paid worker doing nothing all week but putting together techie things for 'rich' blokes in the West, about 4 o' clock you get kinda fed up... Quality control have gone home early...

You get the picture Smile

I've not had any problem with my 710, apart from having to replace it when it was less than an hour old when it locked up even the reset button (!) but I read on the forum somewhere that a couple of people had experienced a poor connection (apparently) with the in-car charger on the 910: it loses the connection due to vibration (again, apparently).

As for putting the mike on the steering wheel, I tried that initially with mine but it just got in the way. I tried it on the indicator stalk but with similar lack of success, now I just hang it from the visor or mirror. I think it's a standard jack on the mike, maybe testing it with a cheapo PC mike might identify any probs with the original.

Just a thought.

Love it! Best "wrong end of the stick" misunderstanding I've heard for ages. Laughing
