Garmin Nuvi 300 problems

Hello all,
my first GPS is a Gamrin Nuvi 300.
It came preloaded with the Europe NT v9 maps which supposedly covers the UK.

The first serious problem I found is that,
1- when using the address function to enter a postcode, it usually returns;
- the wrong address
- a nearby address

2- when using the spell location function it;
- returns no matches
- gives the wrong details again!

As you can imagine this is not what a GPS unit should be doing. I want to be able to enter a postcode and the number [whether that be a house on the street or a number in a block of flats for example] and, have the correct address returned.

Can anyone help with this please? Crying or Very sad

FYI, I have reset the Nuvi by deleting all user data and preferences [back to default].

Sorry, forgot to state

the web updater version I am using is 2.40
the POI loader is 2.32
the map version installed is City Navigator Europe NTv9. UK/Ireland
Nuvi software version is 4.30
audio version 2.20
GPS software 2.90
