Correction.
In my answer above to GPSBear, I left one out of the list of camera types shown as 'Fixed' on the Mio's. It should have read:

Sallyann wrote:

The PGPSW database has more camera types than this, so the Speedcams Builder converts all the following types to 'Fixed': Gatso, Monitron, Truvelo, Temp

I DO wish we could edit our own posts in this forum!

Sorry Trevor, it wasn't intended as a complaint and I apologise if it sounded that way. I genuinely think it would get a better reaction in the Cameras forum - there are too few posters in this specialised forum to give it a sound response.
BTW you have a PM.

Speedcams update facility
You can now keep your own update file to modify the data going into the Speedcams Builder. This is principally intended to allow you to add direction data without having to manually change the PGPSW file every time a new download is available, but you could use it to change the lat/long, speed or even the camera type if you really wanted.

Instructions:
1. With a text editor, create a new file called "pocketgps_update.asc" in your speedcams working folder where you run the Speedcams Builder program.

2. Identify and make a note of the serial numbers of the cameras whose direction or other data you want to change, using the Google application on the 'Submit Cameras' page.

3. Open up the "pocketgps_uk_sc.asc" file in your text editor, find your camera records using their serial numbers, copy and paste them into the new "pocketgps_update.asc" file.

4. Edit each of the records in the update file to make them display the way you want. Direction information can be included by adding two extra items at the end of the record, the first being the direction of travel that the camera is checking, in degrees from north. The second specifies whether the camera is fixed one-way or moveable in both directions. Examples: For a camera checking one side of a dual carriageway only, travelling due south, add ",180,1" at the end of the line. For a reversible camera pointing south-east or north-west, add "135,2". There is more information and further examples of directions on page 4 of this thread.

5. Each time you run the Speedcams Builder to create a new speedcams file for your Mio, it will check every camera in the PGPSW file to see if there is an entry for that camera number in your update file. If it finds a matching record it will replace the PGPSW record with your own.

It will take a little time to create your personal update file, but you only have to do this once and it will be used every time you build from a new download.

To use this facility you will need the latest version of the Speedcams Builder, which you can download here:

Sal.
Sounds wonderful. You have been busy. Did you have time to do your Christmas shopping?
Can we still omit Mobile (and/or Redlight) with the /M?

Why don't I just try it. I did and -m got rid of the mobiles -r got rid of the redlight and the shortcut "Speedcams_builder_212.exe" -m -r got rid of both. :D
Add it did exactly what you said it woud in your previous post with regard to the pocketgps_Update.asc file.
Perhaps we all aught to get together and swap pocketgps_Update.asc files until pocketgpsworld can provide us with what's required. Wink

Help me understand why you don't submit the changes to our database?

Hi Lutz,
I have submitted some bearing data and I know others have done the same. But as discussed in the Cameras forum, until we know what data you already have it is a waste of everyone's time submitting more details which may well just be duplicates.
At the moment, the data is all going one way. This is a temporary expedient until we can get some data out.

Happy Christmas!

Sal.
Am I being thick? I cant find out how to get the camera serial numbers on the Submit Cameras page. Perhaps I am looking at the wrong page, but the Google application only seems to give lat/long with no cameras showing to get the serial number of. Looking for lat/long in the database is a real pain Sad

Lutz.
I think that once users can see a benefit of submitting direction data, you will then get loads of it. But as Sal says, the data flow is a bit one way at the moment. An early output of the data from you would surely provide the incentive for more input from users.
Sallyann is doing a really good job to enable the rest of us to put in our own direction data with her speedcam builder application, but a centralised database at PGPSW would be the ultimate ideal solution. Sal's Speedcam builder, especially in its latest incarnation v212, is so easy to use, that if you have the data it would be a trivial job for PGPSW to provide MIO users with pre-compiled .mtc files with the direction info embedded. You already provide the database in various formats, so one more would not go amiss. Incidentally, your Compatibility page (http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=posting&mode=reply&t=47014) shows that Navman 720 (and I suppose the 750) uses the .ASC file. It doesn't, it uses .CSV files. I know that changing the extention will do the trick, but others might not.

I gave up on cameras because I was fed up with all the false alarms from speed cams on the opposite side of the road, red light cams on the opposite side of the junction, etc etc. When the database has the proper info so that it only alarms on relevant cameras I will subscribe again.
Trevor, If I remember right, to get the camera number from the Google map you just have to click on the camera and the number appears somewhere underneath.

Repsaj
I tend to agree with you, but certain people are trying to persuade PGPSW to do exactly as you (and others) wish.
By using different options of the GPSW you can get rid of mobiles and redlights, and surely it's better to get a false alarm than to get points if you are of the speeding persuasion.
I had another look at the Google map but again could not find any cameras. I previously assumed that you had to do something along the lines of what you said.
Have a good holiday.

I just checked. The cameras are there if you zoom in far enough. Then one click on the camera and the number shows just underneath the map. I think it doesn't work on all browsers, but I'm using Firefox and that's OK.

Thanks for the info. That's wierd. I've just tried again with no luck. I'm using IE6 (silly me) and 'everything' works with that nice Mr. Gates' software.
I assume it is the Google map on full zoom in at http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Cameras that you are looking at, or is it 'Doh' on may part/

It works for me. A single left-click on a camera shows, e.g. "GATSO:5277@30" on the left immediately under the map. I use the excellent Opera browser, with pop-ups blocked, but surely it must work with IE as well? Try playing with the security settings.

I think that would be an excellent move. It seems rather pointless for every Mio user to run the program individually when it only needs to be done once and the finished file made available for download.
As an indication of the interest from Mio users, Speedcams Builder_201 has so far been downloaded 231 times - and that is only from people who have found the link in this section of the forum. I wonder how many potential subscribers for the PGPSW database have logged on to the cameras section, found that the Mio's are not supported, and gone away again never to return?
